Multnomah Arts Center, a program of Portland Parks & Recreation, proudly announces the launch of our Little Artists Preschool! We are recruiting Lead Teachers and Assistants for our 2, 3 and 4-year old classes. Curriculum addresses the ABC’s, numbers, motor and sensory skills and problem solving through creative play.

Little Artists Preschool is a program of the Multnomah Arts Center (MAC) – a Portland Parks and Recreation program. For almost 40 years, MAC has been providing high quality arts instruction and participation in the performing and visual arts to all interested persons, regardless of age, race, religion, ethnic origin, financial means or level ability. Enrolling a child in Little Artists Preschool is placing them in a nurturing arts community that will serve them throughout their life. MAC provides a lifetime of learning opportunities, connections with community and culture, and artist development.

Little Artists classroom leaders will be dedicated educators with strong arts training.

All positions are part-time (maximum 1200 hours per year)

This position does not include benefits.

Schedules

2’s- T/Th: Shift 8:30am-4:00pm (Class time: 9am-11am and 1:30pm-3:30pm.)

3’s- M/W/F: Shift 8:30-12:30 (Class time: 9am-12pm)

3.5-4’s- M/Tu/W/Th: 12:30-4:30pm (Class time: 1pm-4pm)

4’s- M/T/W/Th/F: Shift 8:30-12:30 (Class time: 9am-12pm)

Lead Teacher

-The Lead works 15-20 hours in the classroom and has up to 3 additional hours per week paid planning time.

-Pay range for the Lead is $13-16 hr, with starting wage based on education & experience.

-The ideal candidate for the Lead position:

• Has a degree in Early Childhood Education.

• Can teach age appropriate activities in the disciplines of Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Dance; and has an extensive background in at least one of these forms.

• Must be able to maintain a clean, organized and safe classroom, handling all materials properly.

• Has at least 2 years Pre-Kindergarten teaching experience, including curriculum planning.

• Keep all appropriate documentation such as records, attendance and time sheets.

• Has supervised and mentored an Assistant.

• Has excellent communication skills.

• Is flexible and can appreciate the changing demands of the community and Multnomah Arts Center and contributes to goals with enthusiasm.

• Works well with others and is comfortable sharing a space with the other classes' Leads and Assistants.

• Is earnest about teaching young minds artistic practices, introducing them to new ways of thinking.

• Is familiar with the Multnomah Arts Center and its programs.

• Is CPR/First Aid certified.

Assistant Teacher

-The Assistant works 12-20 hours in the classroom.

-Pay range for the Assistant is $10-13 hr, with starting wage based on education & experience.

-The ideal candidate for the Assistant position:

• Has a degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or is pursuing a degree in ECE or another similar field.

• Has at least 1 year experience working in an educational preschool classroom setting.

• Can teach age appropriate activities in the disciplines of Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Dance; and has an extensive background in at least one of these forms.

• Has excellent communication skills.

• Is flexible and can appreciate the changing demands of the community and Multnomah Arts Center and contributes to goals with enthusiasm.

• Works well with others.

• Is earnest about teaching young minds artistic practices, introducing them to new ways of thinking.

• Is familiar with the Multnomah Arts Center and its programs.

• Is CPR/First Aid certified.

For both positions, there will be occasional required department meetings, various trainings etc outside of regular work hours. These dates/times will be announced well in advance to accommodate schedules.

We generally follow Portland Public School's calendar, with a few exceptions.

August 22 - Candidates notified

August 29 - Hire paperwork completed

September 10 - Start initial meetings, planning, etc.

September – School Orientation - Dates TBD

October 1, 2012 - School begins
