CONSTITUTION OF MUSICIANS’ COLLECTIVEat the Ohio State UniversityRatified on 22 September 2014Article I. NAME/PURPOSESection 1: NAMEa.) The name of this organization shall be Musicians’ Collective, hereinafter referred to as MCo.b.) MCo was once referred to as Future Songwriter’s of America (FSA), and shall operate as the same student organization under a revised constitution and name. Section 2: MISSIONTo support all associates of the music community at the Ohio State University through providing a collective environment for collaboration in order to create a more conscientious music community in the greater Columbus area.Section 3: PURPOSESThe specific purposes of this organization shall be:a.) To give University musicians of all backgrounds the tools to impact their local community. b.) To provide a creative, relaxing environment in which innovative collaboration and networking may occur both between musician and musician, but also between MCo and other organizations. c.) To raise funds to support local musical projects, and local charitable causes. d.) To be a forum of discussion for the future of the local music scene, so that inventive thinking may drive music in a positive direction.e.) To provide resources that aid local musicians in the development of their skills.f.) To carry on the musical inspiration that Future Songwriter’s of America sparked amongst Ohio State student musicians. Article III. MEMBERSHIPSection 1: NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICYMCo and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, musical tastes, or genre identification.Section 2: STUDENT MEMBERSFull membership in MCo is open to any student in good standing enrolled at the Ohio State University’s main campus that supports the mission and shares the interests of MCo. Student members are voting associates of MCo.Section 3: NON-STUDENT MEMBERS Partial membership in MCo is open to any individual who supports the mission and shares the interests of MCo, and may not necessarily be associated with the Ohio State University. Non-student members are non-voting associates of MCo who are admitted into the organization by the Board. Section 4: MEMBERSHIP RIGHTSa.) Members shall be informed about mandatory meeting dates in which student members must be present to vote at least one (1) week prior to the day of the meeting. This notice shall be made by telephone, fax, e-mail, or web site posting.b.) A quorum shall be a majority of all Members present. All meetings shall be conducted under the authority of Roberts Rules of Order. c.) The treasurer shall maintain a complete list of members, along with their contact information, and their annual fee status.Section 5: MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTSa.) All members are required to attend one (1) MCo event and/or meeting per academic session.b.) All members are required to collaborate/host one (1) MCo sponsored event per academic year. Article IV. ORGANIZATION LEADERSHIPSection 1: ELECTED ORGANIZATION LEADERSa.) The elected organization leaders of MCo shall include, but is not limited to the positions of: President, Vice President, and Treasurer. b.) Elected leaders must be students in good standing at the Ohio State University, and must be elected by a majority of all present members before the last day of the spring academic session at the Ohio State University.c.) Elected leaders will assume their positions on the day after the last day of the spring academic session, and must be registered and recognized as the organization’s leaders by the SOURCE at the Ohio State University. Section 2: PRESIDENTa.) The President shall be the primary leader of MCo, serving as the liaison between MCo and the University and local community.b.) The President shall serve for one (1) calendar year to begin on the first day of the summer academic session. c.) The President shall be elected by the registered student members of MCo.d.) The President’s duties shall include: sitting as the head of the Board, initiating and leading Board meetings, attending member meetings, ensuring organization leaders are registered through the Ohio Union, ensuring that the meeting location and time is registered and reserved through the University before the fall academic semester, ensuring the organization’s information is up to date on the SOURCE website, creating planning committees as needed, writing MCo checks only with the permission of the treasurer, giving a State of the Union address every academic semester, enforcing the conventions laid out in the constitution, sending out weekly e-mails in conjunction with the vice president to inform members of upcoming meetings and events, and any other task pertaining to the representation of MCo to the public. Section 3: VICE PRESIDENTa.) The Vice President shall be the secondary leader of MCo, serving as the liaison between the MCo board and its members/constituents. The Vice President shall assume the duties of the president in the instance that the president cannot continue his/her duties until a new president is elected. b.) The Vice President shall serve for one (1) calendar year to begin on the first day of the summer academic session.c.) The Vice President shall be elected by the registered student members of MCo.d.) The Vice President’s duties shall include: sitting on the Board, attending Board meetings, attending member meetings, registering MCo for the student involvement fair, maintaining a current list of members including e-mail addresses and musical background, planning and arranging events for the recruitment of new members, addressing the MCo member base every meeting to ask for member concerns/ideas/requests, presenting all member concerns/ideas/requests to the Board, sending out weekly e-mails in conjunction with the president to inform members of upcoming meetings and events, helping the treasurer organize fundraising events, organizing the voting dates and procedure for the election of new organization leaders, and any other task pertaining to the representation of MCo members to the MCo board. Section 4: TREASURERa.) The Treasurer shall be responsible for any and all financial transactions made on behalf of MCo. The Treasurer shall assume the duties of the vice president in the instance that the vice president cannot continue his/her duties until a new vice president is elected.b.) The Treasurer shall serve for one (1) calendar year to begin on the first day of the summer academic session.c.) The Treasurer shall be elected by the registered student members of MCo.d.) The Treasurer’s duties shall include: sitting on the Board, attending Board meetings, attending member meetings, monitoring the MCo bank account, ensuring that the names on the MCo account are up to date and that only the current president and treasurer are listed as co-account holders, ensuring a good transition for the newly elected treasurer to be placed on the MCo account, writing and signing all MCo checks, collecting/ documenting/enforcing the payment of membership dues, applying for operational funding before the end of the year prior, applying for programming funding before the third week of the semester preceding the semester in which funding is sought, addressing the MCo members at every meeting to give a one minute in length statement of the organization’s finances, presenting a budget to the Board, approving of all financial budgets for events, organizing fundraisers when necessary, and any other task pertaining to the finances of MCo. Article V. THE BOARDSection 1: FUNCTION/MEMBERSa.) The MCo Board will serve as the governing body of MCo. No action shall be made on the organization’s behalf unless first approved by the Board.b.) The Board shall consist of five (5) members, including the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and two Development Chairs (DC). Section 2: DEVELOPMENT CHAIRSa.) The two Development Chairs (DCs) shall be responsible for the representation of MCo members to the Board, and for the development and improvement of MCo at large.b.) The DCs shall serve for one (1) academic session to begin on the first day of the upcoming academic session.c.) The DCs shall be voted in by the student members of MCo on the first meeting of the preceding academic session.d.) The DCs’ duties shall include: sitting on the Board, attending Board meetings, representing the MCo members to the Board, voicing any specific member concerns to the Board, taking notes at any member meeting or Board meeting, promoting upcoming MCo events, suggesting development ideas to the Board, and any other task relating to the development and betterment of MCo. Article VI. THE SELCETION AND REMOVAL OF OFFICERS AND MEMBERSSection 1: Officer SelectionOfficers will be chosen in an electionAny member can run for any officer position by their own choice of officer suggestionOfficer position will be selected by a majority vote from the general members of the organizationNo member shall be prevented from running for an officer position based on any of the statutes placed in the NON-DISCRIMITORY POLICY (Article III, Section 1) Section 2: MEMBER SELECTIONa.) The Musicians’ Collective is an open student organization and all allowed to participate in meeting provided they the follow the rules set forth in the membership section (Article III)Section 3: Officer/Member RemovalOfficer/member removal can be suggested by any member of MCo, given they have a pertinent reason for suggestion. (Reasons may include: inability to perform tasks in a timely manner, lack of respect to other officers and club members, stealing of organizational funds for personal use and other specific reason or scenarios that might come to a member’s attention with the bard’s approval). Officers and members can be removed through a majority vote of 2/3 by the board.Officers will be replaced through the OFFICER SELECTION written out in Article VI, Section 1No member shall be removed from the organization based on any of the statutes placed in the NON-DISCRIMITORY POLICY (Article III, Section 1) Article VII. ORGANIZATION ADVISORSection 1: Requirementsa.) The advisor must be a member of The Ohio State University Faculty and promote and support the goals and duties set forth in this constitution. Section 2: DutiesMCo’s advisor is to be present at least 2 meetings a semester.Be available to officers and general members to answer any questions regarding the organization.Assist in organizational tasks that cannot be done by students, and be a gateway to the universityArticle VIII. METHOD FOR THE ADDITION OF AMENDMENTSSection 1: PROPOSALAmendment may be proposed by any active member of the Musician’s CollectiveAmendments must be typed and presented to the board to be read at the next general meeting by the proposerSection 2: APPROVALAmendments may be approved by a 2/3 majority vote from active members (additionally at least 50% + 1 member must be present at the meeting when the vote is to be held)Upon approval the amendment will be ratified and added into the constitutionSection 3: VETO OF AN AMENDMENTa.) An amendment may be vetoed should the amendment go against core values of the organization, specifically breaking of Article III, Section 1b.) Amendments may only be vetoed by a unanimous veto vote from board members followed by an approved veto from the organization’s advisorc.) **Vetoes should only be used should the proposed amendment go against rules and/or laws of the Ohio State University, State or Federal Law and/or the Discrimination Clause set forth in this document (Article III, Section 1)Article IX. METHOD FOR DISSOLUTIONSection 1: DissolutionDissolution can occur when the board unanimously decides dissolution is necessary because the organization no longer adheres to the goals and tasks put forward by this Constitution.Should debts exist, debts will be paid for by Officer Members, and any active member who volunteer to aid in collection of the debt removalShould any extra funds be left in the organization’s bank account it will be donated to a local charity of active member’s choiceConstitution revised: DATE \@ "d MMMM yyyy" 22 September 2014 ................
