Public Policy and Legislation Committee Chair (PP&L)

Voting Board Member Term of Office: As Appointed by President

Job Summary:

Coordinate the duties based on committee purpose and goals. Delegate responsibility to members of the committee. Promote understanding toward full perspective of the importance of the Public Policy & Legislation Committee. Act as a cohesive motivator toward a positive outcome within this group.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Keep informed of all proposed or desired federal and state legislation pertaining to Child Nutrition Services or related programs.

2. Develop and recommend Legislative priority paper, policy and positions, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee.

3. Develop and/or maintain WSNA state and federal grassroots network (State Legislative Action Network (SLAN) and Congressional Action Network (CAN) to disseminate information regarding contacting Congressmen and Legislators about Child Nutrition issues.

4. Facilitate communication with legislators in the State and/or Congress prior to a vote on pertinent legislation.

5. With the approval of the Executive Committee, act on legislative matters on behalf of WSNA.

6. On behalf of WSNA, serve as AEA (Alliance of Educational Assoc. WAMOA and WSNA) board member and attend board meeting in October and K-20 call in May.

7. Participate in monthly AEA conference calls; weekly calls during session.

8. Represent WSNA in the Meals for Kids (MFK) Coalition (WSNA, Faith Action Network, Anti-Hunger & Nutrition Coalition, WASAND).

9. Participate in MFK Coalition conference calls.

10. Work with allied organizations to promote common interests.

11. Coordinate with WSNA’s consultant quarterly articles for Apple Press.

12. Attend the SNA Legislative Action Conference. Coordinate Washington delegation and set up Congressional appointments for SNA’s Day on Capitol Hill.

13. Promote participation and coordinate AEA day on the hill in Olympia.

14. Attend WSNA’s day on the hill in Olympia.

15. Represent the Association at meetings involving child nutrition issues at the request of the President.

16. Attend meetings with legislators as setup by WSNA consultant or coordinate WSNA members to attend.

17. Develop and issue WSNA’s legislative updates and alerts.

18. PP&L Chair and President may appoint members to the PP&L Committee.

19. Serve as liaison to Association consultant.

20. Coordinate “Back the PAC” fundraising activities at association events. PP&L chairperson or designee will follow Back the PAC accounting process and send contributions to SNA PAC on behalf of WSNA and return receipts to WNSA Executive director and report to WSNA board.

21. Shall keep all literature and correspondence pertaining to his/her committee and pass it on to the next Chairman at the close of Conference.

22. Shall supply committee members with appropriate sections of the WSNA By-Laws, standing rules, and WSNA program of work.

23. Shall have any materials that bear WSNA endorsement approved by the Executive Committee for content and quantity.
