Dorothy Nell Wynens King, age 90, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021, at The Retreat Nursing Home which has been her home for the past three years.

Nell King was a lifelong resident of Hillsboro. Her parents were the late Robert Burl Wynens and Hattie Inez Jackson Wynens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jessie Calhoun “Buck” Clay, Jr. of twenty-five years and Walter Edgbert “W.E.” King, Jr. of twenty-two years; sister, Mildred Hadaway; brother-in-law, John Henry Hadaway; brothers, Bobby Wynens and Jack Wynens; and sister-in-law, Jane Wynens.

Nell was a Christian southern lady. She was a member of Hillsboro Methodist Church most of her life, but after marrying Walter King she became a member of Sunshine Methodist Church of Round Oak. She was Sunshine Methodist’s oldest member and attended services until bad health made it impossible.

Nell’s priority was family and home. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed playing the piano by ear. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible daily.

Nell’s interests and hobbies were many and varied. These interests included sewing, hand crafts such as decorating eggs, basket weaving, painting and making porcelain dolls. She had been active in Home Demonstration Club and History and Heritage Club of Gray. She loved flowers and gardening, working in her yard, loved spending with family and friends and had a passion for shut-ins.

She is survived by her children, Joseph Steve (Ann) Clay of Pembroke Pines, Florida and Janell (Tony) Wild of Monticello; grandchildren, Brian (Shannon) Clay, Justin (Heidi) Clay and Jennifer Clay; great grandchildren, Gavin Clay, Logan Clay, Colin Clay and Charlotte Clay; step-children, Bert (Cindy) King, John (Wanda) King, Kathy (Mike) Chapman and Sue (Scott) Speir; step-grandchildren, Molly (Josh) Owens, Barrett (Kendall) Speir, Susannah (Andrew) Lyle, Ethan (Isabelle) Speir, Katie (Ryan) Nikitin, Adam King, Anna King, Joshua King, Isaiah King, Elijah King and Alanna King; step-great grandchildren, Luke Owens, Jeb Owens, Anna Kate Owens, Finn Speir, Sutton Speir, Tatum Speir, Grady Lyle, Cora Lyle and Walton Lyle; sister-in-laws, Virginia Wynens of Hillsboro and Wylene Sparks of Monroe; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Hillsboro Baptist Church Cemetery in Hillsboro. Rev. Tommy Martin, Rev. Debbie Wallace, Rev. David Williams and Rev. Len Woodard will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Preston Wynens, Phil Hadaway, Dennis Pate, Dwight Voyles, David Dyer, Billy Ozburn, Adam King, Joshua King, and Barrett Speir. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Jackson, Jones Jackson, Rodney Jackson, Bart Jackson, Jimmy Crutchfield, Stan Wells, Bruce Yandle, Thomas White, Jr. and Wayne Clay.

The family suggests donations may be made in Mrs. King’s memory to Sunshine Methodist Church, c/o Andrea Crutchfield 118 Jackson Road, Round Oak, Georgia 31038; Hillsboro Methodist Church, c/o Scotty Dumas, P.
