|School: Charlton Primary School |Location: Wantage, Oxfordshire |

|Job title: Teaching Assistant |Salary range: Grade 4 |

|The role of the Teaching Assistant is very much as ‘co-worker’ with the teacher, with all adults operating together as a team. |

|Specific Duties: |

|Reinforcing the learning of children. |

|Promote and reflect our school values |

|Helping children to understand instructions. |

|Having responsibility sometimes for individual children or groups during an activity. |

|Making observations on the children’s progress and discussing this progress with the teacher. |

|Use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use. |

|Helping set up and sometimes lead pre-arranged classroom activities with individuals and groups. |

|Working with children inside and outside the classroom on activities covering all aspects of the curriculum. |

|Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities. |

|Liaising with parents, under the direction of the class teacher, information regarding their child/children. |

|Attending occasional meetings outside school hours. |

|Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom. |

|Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance. |

|General Duties: |

|Carrying out general classroom tasks to aid teachers in their classroom duties: |

|Preparing equipment or materials. |

|Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and |

|progress of pupils. |

|Tidying up resources. |

|Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations. |

|Work within an established discipline policy to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence. |

|Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop. |

|Assisting with duties at morning break and lunchtimes as directed. |

|Positively supporting all children to help develop their self-care skills as appropriate to their age/developmental stage. |

|Commitment to contributing to the positive ethos of the school. |

|Working as part of the whole school team to conform with and support the policies of the school, complying with procedures relating to child |

|protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection. |

|Attending, where possible, training appropriate to the post. |

|Deliver small group teaching sessions. |

An annual review of this job description and allocation of particular responsibilities will take place as part of the Performance Management Review. The responsibilities of the post are to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the most up to date edition of the Vale Academy Trust School Performance Management Policy for Support Staff.
