Welcome to Bass-Mollett Publisher's Personalized Directory Sign Designer.

Step 1: Scan images

It is best to scan all the pictures that you are using before opening the template. (Bass-Mollett does not provide scanning or cropping capabilities.)

Save the scanned pictures as JPEGs at 150 to 300 dpi to a folder on your computer. (Example: Your “My Documents” Folder)

Picture of the Deceased is 2” wide by 3”high

8.5x11 Custom background design is 10.5” wide by 8” high

4.25x11 Custom background design is 10.5” wide by 3.750” high

Lectern Custom background design is 7.25” wide by 3.25” high

The picture sizes are only the recommended sizes. The picture box can be manipulated to resize the photo inside program.

Step 2: Choose Directory Sign size

Choose the size from the first page of the program that you wish to design and print, by clicking on the image or the text below it.

Step 3: Choose Design

Choose the design by clicking on the image or text of the background that you wish to use.

Macro Warning!! When opening up a template for the first time.

All of our templates contain macros.

These templates will NOT work without enabling macros!

In order to use these templates you must select to

"Always trust macros from this publisher."

Step 4: Toolbar Description

The snapshot below is the BMP Directory Signs Toolbar. This toolbar is the key to inserting a clipart, changing the shape of the picture of the deceased, and saving the frame design for later use.

If you do not see this toolbar then go to View, Toolbars, and check the BMP Directory Signs toolbar!

Step 5: Inserting Extras (Optional)

Insert extras, by choosing which object you want by clicking on the buttons on the BMP Directory Signs Toolbar pictured above.

Once the object is inserted you will need to click on the object and drag it to the desired location, which can be anywhere you like.

Tip: The object can be enlarged or shrunken by clicking once on the object and use the sizing handles (the small boxes or circles in the corners) to resize it.

Step 6: Inserting text

To insert text, click once on Deceased Name or any text that says Replace text. Clear the text and type the desired information. The font, font size and color may all be changed as well.

Step 7: Inserting a Picture of the Deceased or a custom background

All images need to be scanned and saved to your computer prior to this step as stated on the first page of these instructions.

If any distortion is visible after inserting the picture, the image can be manipulated by clicking once on the image and use the sizing handles (the small boxes or circles around the picture) to resize the image until the distortion is gone. If resizing was required, you may need to re-center the picture back to its original location. Just click on the picture and use your directional keys on your keyboard to move the image back to its original location.

Change the shape of the picture

The Picture of the Deceased’s image can be changed to an oval picture by clicking on the “Change to oval” button on the BMP Directory Signs Toolbar

Step 8: Saving the template for later use (Optional)

Click on the “Save template” button on the BMP Directory Signs Toolbar (Pictured on page 2 of these instructions) and choose the desired location to save the template.

Step 9: Printing the design

Click File, Print.

Customizing Options

1. If the background image is too dark, simply click once on the image and use the image toolbar to lighten or darken the background.

2. All text boxes can be resized and moved to any desired location. Click once on the text box and use the sizing handles (the small boxes or circles in the corners) to resize it or move it to a new location.

3. If a picture of the deceased is NOT wanted, click on the image box and press your delete key on your keyboard to remove it.

Tip: This would be a good area to place an object from the BMP Directory Signs Toolbar!
