How to Create a Printer Object

1. Create the host in DBEdit:

Make sure all the fields are accurate, especially the MAC address, the BUILDING and the TAG number. If the wrong BUILDING is selected, the IP address that gets assigned WILL NOT WORK. Use the full context for the username field.

The host gets added, note the hostname:

You can then go out to the host registration page () to get the IP address:

2. Log into iManager and select iPrint then Create Printer.

Create the printer. The printer name should use the following syntax:

- - -

So in this example it would be: HP1320-Mic-106-1

Put the printer in the correct container as the department.

Select the correct Printer Manager:

Acad – Manager1.Acad.cwu

Admin – Manager1.Admin.cwu

SAffairs – Manager2.Saffairs.cwu

Pres – Manager1.Admin.cwu

UAdv – Manager1.Admin.cwu

Labs – ndps_lab-manager1.lab.cwu

Create the printer using the HOSTNAME so if the IP changes for some reason the clients won’t need to reload the drivers.

3. Select the correct drivers for Windows XP and Windows 2000 both. If there isn’t a driver then see related document on how to load the drivers into the print managers.

4. Once created, select the Modify option.

5. Select Identification off the Printer Control tab and fill in the location and description. The description contains the date the printer was created, the initials of the creator, the tag number, the MAC address and the IP address.

6. Select the Access Control tab and grant rights as shown below then apply.

7. Check the printer status by clicking on the Printer Control tab.

The printer should be in a Ready state. If it is not check to see if it’s plugged in and online, print a test page to see if it has it’s new IP address, check DBEdit to make sure the jack you are plugging it into is hot, etc.

8. Once created, go to the printer web page and set the administrator password to DEANNA. If the printer has Appletalk enable, disable it. Fill in any fields that are needed for Faxing or Emailing, etc.

How to Load a Printer Driver

1. Go get the driver and put it on //Socrates/public/pub/win_dos/printer drivers/ (you should create the directory using the vendor/model (HP1320) then under that directory use XP and W2K for the appropriate operating system.

2. Log into iManager and select iPrint then Manage Broker.

3. Select the broker you wish to add drivers to. (You should add drivers to both brokers.)

[pic]

4. Select the Access Management tab then the Operating System you want to add drivers to. (CWU is only adding drivers to Windows XP and Windows 2000 at this time.)

[pic]

5. Select the Add From File button and go to the directory on Socrates where you put the driver.

[pic]

Select the correct INF file.

[pic]

Sometimes the INF file will have multiple drivers, select the one you want.

[pic]

Files will start copying over:
