1. What are the different states of water? Liquid, Solid, & Gas

2. How / Why does water change from one state to another? Melts (Solid to Liquid) by adding heat (temperatures greater than 0oC / 32oF), Freezes (Liquid to Solid) by taking heat away (temperatures less than 0oC / 32oF), Evaporates (Liquid to Gas) by adding heat (temperatures greater than 100oC / 212oF), Condenses (Gas to Liquid) by taking heat away (temperatures less than 0oC / 32oF)

3. What are some places on earth where water may be stored for many years? Oceans, Seas, Rivers, Lakes, Creeks, Glaciers, Underground, Ice Caps, Atmosphere, etc.....

4. How does the amount of water we have today compare with the amount of water during the time of the dinosaurs? Why? The same amount of water we have today existed back then because the Water Cycle recycles the water!

7. Describe the Water Cycle using specific and precise vocabulary The Sun heats the water on Earth so that it Evaporates into the atmosphere. Some water vapors are from plants. That is called Transpiration. As water vapor cools, it Condenses to form Clouds. As the water vapor gets heavier, it falls back down to Earth in the form of Precipitation. Depending on the temperature, the precipitation is in the form of rain, sleet, snow, or hail. As the water falls back down to Earth, it Runs off and Collects back into Storage areas, such as, rivers, streams, oceans, and underground. Then as the Sun comes back out, the process starts all over again.

9. How are clouds formed? Clouds are formed when water vapor condenses in the atmosphere. a. What part(s) of water cycle involve clouds? Condensation forms clouds. b. Explain how clouds play a part of the water cycle. Clouds collect cooled water vapor (water droplets) that eventually fall back to Earth as precipitation.

10. Why does water form on the outside of a cold drink on a hot day? Water Vapor in the air cools as it hits the cool surfaces of the cup and condenses.

11. Name four types of precipitation. Hail, Rain, Sleet, & Snow How are hail, snow, sleet, rain, and dew different? See vocabulary...

12. What is the difference in freshwater and saltwater? Salt water is salty (contains salt); fresh water does not. a. Where can each type be found on our planet? Salt water is mainly found in our oceans and salt water ponds (lakes etc.) Fresh water is mostly found in streams, rivers, ice caps, etc.

b. Explain how salty / dirty / clean water changes as it cycles through the Water Cycle

When water evaporates, the water evaporates and everything else, including the sale is

simply left behind.
