Brandon Products Ltd is a biotechnology company that develops and commercialises products, including active compounds for skin care applications, which are derived from marine raw materials.

The company commenced operations in 1998 following several years' research at the Institute of Technology, Tralee, Co Kerry. Research and development remains at the core of the company's mission with projects underway in several specialist sectors including spa and thalassotherapy.

Brooke & Shoals was founded in 2004 by Alison Banton in the picturesque seaside town of Greystones in County Wicklow, known as the "Garden of Ireland".

Brooke & Shoals scented candles are natural, luxurious and hand- made in Ireland. Their sophisticated harmonious fragrances create divine aromas that last. Their use of natural soy wax, from a sustainable source, makes them environmentally friendly and also ensures a clean toxin-free burn.

As part of this drive for scent-excellence, Brooke & Shoals formulate their divine smells by blending fabulous fragrance oils and natural essential oils. Brooke & Shoals also use an exceptionally high level of fragrance within their candles.

THE BURREN PERFUMERY LTD

Having studied perfumery in Grasse, France, in the 1960's, Brian Mooney returned to his homeland, to create his own fragrances based on the scents and plants of the Burren, Co. Clare.

He set up Ireland's first working perfumery in a cottage near Carron, Co. Clare and in 1995 Edward Biggs, now co-director of the perfumery became involved. Edward's first task was to reformulate the existing fragrances. While keeping their essence and character, he felt they needed to be lighter and more floral to appeal to a new generation of younger buyers. It was at this point that Edward discovered that he had a rare gift, a "nose" - the ability to smell a fragrance and break it down into its components parts by smell alone.

To make fragrance, distilled oils are mixed according to each perfume's unique formula, using an alcohol base and distilled water, before being left to mature for six months in big glass bottle.

All soaps are made from vegetable oils - palm, coconut and olive - and, except for the more exotic ingredients such as cassia and orange, all the herbs that scent them are grown in the perfumery's own herb garden which is designed and maintained by a local gardener and many of the plants growing are native wild flowers.

The Burren Perfumery has enjoyed great international success, suppling 150 shops in North America and stockists throughout Europe and in Australia, as well as loyal mail-order following.
