|Role Overview: |

|The role of Research Consulting staff in CSIRO is to initiate, develop, lead and promote CSIRO's research capability for the benefit of |

|Australia's economy, society and/or environment through strategic partnerships with industry. |

|The Fluid Engineering Solutions Team work with clients to solve industrial problems in fluid mixing and agitation, slurry transport, wear and |

|erosion. The team has access to high class pilot facilities which are flexible to meet client requirements. |

|Your primary responsibility is to contribute to the development and delivery of consulting projects, and also work on in-house development |

|projects. Many projects will have industry clients, based in Australia and overseas. A significant part of this role is develop ongoing |

|relationships with customers and expand out the base client base for the team, based on your industry contacts. |

|About You |

|You will be motivated by completing projects in a timely manner, with an eye for simplification. You will have strong interpersonal and |

|communication skills, and enjoy working in a team. You will have a breadth of engineering skills and interests, an ability to have a clear |

|line of sight to potential industrial applications, and the capacity to adapt your skills to suit research and industry priorities. |

|Duties and Key Result Areas: |

|Visit operating mine sites to understand business issues, identify opportunities for placement of current CSIRO technology / services in |

|addition to identifying industry areas of need for future products. |

|Work and direct scaled experiments in a pilot facility involving slurries (fluids with solids) and where required, input into the design of |

|equipment to carry out experiment/s. |

|Direct construction or assembly of equipment to carry out investigations and test designs, in our pilot facility and out at mining operations |

|Plan and manage and schedule available resources to execute projects to agreed timelines. |

|Direct test work on in our pilot facilities and mine sites, requiring you to work within site procedures and guidelines. A significant number|

|of sites may be in remote locations within Australia and globally. |

|Write clear and concise reports on the outcome of the project/s in a timely manner and be able to present them to clients. |

|Other duties as directed. |

|Selection Criteria: |

|Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed |

|Pre-Requisites: |

|Education/Qualifications: Bachelor of Engineering in relevant discipline, such as process or mechanical engineering. |

|Experience: Significant technical ability and practical experience in commissioning industrial equipment, carrying out projects (shutdown |

|maintenance or equipment upgrades) in industry with minimal technical oversight. |

|Essential Criteria: |

|Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a network of industry contacts, ideally from an organisation providing services to the mining |

|industry. |

|Knowledge of design standards and specifications of process and plant equipment (vessels, piping and fittings). |

|Demonstrated preparedness to travel to operating sites both within and outside of Australia on a as needs basis to work at mining operations |

|to implement CSIRO technology / services. |

|Demonstrated ability to anticipate and manage problems in ambiguous situations, by developing and selecting an appropriate course of action |

|and provide for contingencies. |

|Demonstrated ability to cooperate with other teams and industry colleagues to achieve organisational objectives. |

|Demonstrated ability to identify critical stakeholders and influence them via verbal and written communication, to gain support for sometimes |

|contentious proposals / ideas. |

|Demonstrated ability to work independently, assess the risk and opportunity of identified strategies, options and actions, and overcome |

|challenges and setbacks in achieving goals. |

|Demonstrated ability to be flexible in thinking and adapt to and manage the increasing rate of organisational change by adjusting strategies, |

|goals and priorities as well as the ability to contribute to and influence strategic direction of your immediate group and the wider |

|organisation |

|Desirable Criteria: |

|Mine site experience in a “wet” mineral processing plant environment, as a project or plant engineer. |

|Demonstrated ability to maintain effective project teams, and manage performance and resources, to deliver complex projects to industry |

|clients based in Australia and overseas. |

|A passion for developing scientific and engineering knowledge and using it to create a better society. |

|The ability to contribute to and influence strategic direction of your immediate group and the wider organisation. |
