Lesson Plan-Photosynthesis 3rd Grade Science

Lesson Plan-Photosynthesis

Grade Level & Subject Area: ______3rd Grade Science_________________

Standards/Framework (Common Core, NAEYC, Midlevel ....):

3-LS1-1 Develop models to describe that organisms have unique and diverse life cycles but all have in common birth, growth, reproduction, and death.

2-LS2-1 Plan and conduct an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow

Theme/Series of Lessons (if Not applicable, put N/A. If it is part of a series, of lessons, tell me, give a BRIEF description of the overall and tell me where this particular lesson fits):

This is a series about plants. The second lesson is I will be discussing photosynthesis will the students. They will learn what photosynthesis is and what it does. I will discuss the basic process of photosynthesis. This is part of the life cycle of plants.

Time (is this a 1 day 50 minute lesson, 5 day 1 hour lesson, once a week over a month lesson....):

2 day 50-minute lesson

What do the students already know? (This could be the Intro or they have learned information before starting this lesson):

The students will already know the basic parts of the plant and they should also be familiar with the basic structure of the flower. We would have discussed this the week before.

Objective (What are the students' going to accomplish):

The students will know what photosynthesis is and why it's important for the plants life cycle. They should be able to point out what goes into the plant during photosynthesis and what come out of the plant after photosynthesis has occurred. Materials: Inspiration Program with my flow chart ready Computer Projector A real flower plant A flashlight (to use as the sunlight in the demonstration) A blank piece of paper Colored pencils Procedure: On the first day, I will just lecture them about the process of photosynthesis using my inspiration as a guide. I will also be using my plant and a flashlight to simulate the process of photosynthesis to the class. The second day of the lesson we will be drawing the process of photosynthesis and labeling it. Make sure the input (water, CO2, light) and output (oxygen) is pointing the correct way on the student's papers. Assessment (How will the students' show you that the objective has been met):

They will turn in the picture of the process of photosynthesis for a grade. They will also be given a test where they have to label the input and output of photosynthesis. Some of the vocabulary words for this lesson will also appear on the spelling test for the week.

A Brief Description Of The Entire Lesson - Plus Any Additional Information to be Included:

On the first day, I will just lecture them about the process of photosynthesis using my inspiration as a guide. I will also be using my plant and a flashlight to simulate the process of photosynthesis to the class. The second day of the lesson we will be drawing the process of photosynthesis and labeling it. Make sure the input (water, CO2, light) and output (oxygen) is pointing the correct way on the student's papers.

(I should be able to see and understand your entire lesson by reading this. Remember, Technology is not the lesson. It enhances the lesson)
