The University is establishing an operational delivery Team (the FLIC Team) to manage and deliver a 3-year funded initiative targeting SMEs in a variety of sectors to enhance their productivity and competitiveness through collaborative product, service and process innovation projects. This activity will take place across the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (Humber LEP) area. SMEs in other parts of England with European ‘Transition’ area status may also benefit from the project. Collaborations may also involve large companies, other research organisations and agencies to maximise the benefit of investment in SME-led innovations. The FLIC Team is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) programme for England 2014-2020. Funding has been committed for the full duration of the project. The team will operate from the University of Hull campus. The post holder will be the main point of contact for SMEs to engage with the FLIC project and the wider University and other relevant agencies, and will work to ensure efficient and effective delivery of ESIF project outputs and targets. The Business Development Manager will work within the project team comprising: one Project Manager, one Business Development Manager, three Technical Research Managers, two Researchers, one Finance and Audit Officer and one Administration Officer. The FLIC Business Development Manager will report to the FLIC Project Manager. The FLIC Team will operate independently but will co-ordinate with the academic faculties within the University, which will be delivering innovation support to SMEs. The role will include networking and collaboration with other innovation professionals and programmes operating in the region to ensure alignment and integration of business support provision. The particular focus of the role will require the post-holder to have robust knowledge of current regional and national business support provision as well as a network of relevant contacts (both public and private) upon which to draw. Experience of generating collaborative business partnerships between HEI and industry and expertise mapping to support such projects would be beneficial.Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the postThe FLIC Business Development Manager will work across the Humber LEP geography, engaging directly with SMEs and ensuring the provision of an effective business-facing service meeting ERDF contract requirements. The role will require proactive action to secure collaborative partnerships with SMEs across multiple sectors, to identify product, service and process innovation supporting flood resilience, mitigation, adaptation and response. The role holder will work with other members of the team, particularly the Technical Research Managers and Researchers, to ensure appropriate provision of expertise to regional companies to develop, implement and exploit R&D and innovation activities eligible for support under the project. Responsibilities will include: Working with the FLIC Project Manager to develop and implement effective working practices within the FLIC Team to ensure effective delivery of project outputs and targets; Stimulating demand for R&D and innovation facilities and support accessible through the project;Working closely with the FLIC Project Manager and the University’s marketing team to organise appropriate marketing and PR campaigns;Proactively engaging beneficiaries and managing eligibility checking processes; Supporting the FLIC Technology Research Managers to ensure that SME beneficiaries receive effective diagnostic and appropriate tailored support packages;Ensuring effective implementation of support to SMEs as well as compliance with ERDF requirements; Supporting the Technology Research Managers in managing and delivering key account relationships to ensure that quality services are being provided; Undertaking and supporting appropriate engagement with other strategic partners, agencies and support projects where relevant, working with the Project Manager as relevant/necessary; Developing and maintaining specialist knowledge and continual awareness of sector developments, needs and opportunities linked to flood resilience, adaptation, mitigation and response, and provide a primary resource for sector intelligence and expertise for the FLIC project; Identifying new areas of development and innovation within relevant sectors, and new opportunities for businesses that can be realised through R&D; Supporting appropriate marketing activities and events in line with ERDF publicity guidance; Contributing to the development of a database of other relevant innovation support providers locally, regionally and nationally (working with other University of Hull ESIF projects - SparkFund and Aura Innovation Centre); Accurate record keeping and data management to ensure compliance with funder requirements, data protection and audit scrutiny.The post holder will be expected to have a driving licence in order to engage with companies across the Humber and to ensure that appropriate liaison can take place with academics based on campus.GENERIC JOB DESCRIPTIONThe job duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of the role.
