TECHNICIAN – PILOT PLANT SERVICES 2017DUTIES?This position involves providing technical and mechanical support to evaluate the production processes of various fertilizer materials (e.g., specialized fertilizers, phosphoric acid).? Duties may include:?Operating equipment during experiments (e.g., setting controls, changing controls as required, performing repairs when necessary)?Organizing and maintaining laboratory and pilot plant equipment (e.g., maintaining bench scale granulation laboratory, performing maintenance and safety inspections of equipment, performing weekly turnover and lubrication of equipment)?Collecting, calculating and filing technical data to be included in reports?Assisting in training programs at IFDC headquarters and overseas?Performing a variety of other related minor duties as required (e.g., operating forklift and front-end loader, performing shipping and receiving duties, maintaining purchase order files)?JOB?REQUIREMENTS?AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK?This position requires a mechanical background and the ability to apply that knowledge to perform the duties assigned.? This job may involve the following:?Basic knowledge of chemistry in order to properly set-up equipment and handle hazardous raw materials?Basic knowledge of math in order to properly calculate formulas, produce calibration curves and perform production process calculations?Ability to communicate effectively with various people of different nationalities in order to relay information and answer questions?Willingness to train in other areas (e.g. fertilizer physical properties, tableting) with a view to expansion of job responsibilities over time?Ability to operate heavy equipment to transport materials within and outside of IFDCRESPONSIBILITY?This position requires limited judgment and decision making as the incumbent is responsible for making decisions at his/her assigned station (e.g., equipment changes, repairs, operational control of the process).? Work is assigned on a project basis with detailed instructions.? Work is reviewed while the employee is performing the work and upon completion by co-workers and the supervisor.? Errors may result in additional processing time if the operator chooses an incorrect feed rate or operates a piece of equipment at an incorrect temperature.?PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS?Frequent contact is made with the production supervisor and co-workers to verify processed data and explain process procedures.? Contact is made with international visitors to discuss laboratory and pilot plant operations.?PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT?This position requires working in laboratories and the pilot plant which exposes the worker to adverse conditions (high noise, hazardous chemical vapors, high dust levels).? This position requires the incumbent to load and move heavy equipment and materials.? The incumbent in this position is responsible for following proper safety procedures when handling hazardous materials.? ................
