Goal Statement

Your responses to the items below will be reviewed as part of your application for admission to the Master of Health Sciences (MHS) program at Western Carolina University. Your application will be incomplete without this essay.

NOTE: Application materials must be submitted by the deadline even if recommendations or GRE scores are still pending.

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed. However, applicants may contact the Graduate School by Email and request to have their application moved to the next available semester, with no additional cost.

Directions:

Goal Statements are limited to three (3) double-spaced pages in length. Applicants should follow these guidelines in formatting the essay:

• 1-inch margins

• 12-point type in Times New Roman font

• Word (.doc or .docx) or Rich Text (.rtf) format

• Full name must be on the document

Respond to the following items:

1. Identify the MHS concentration for which you are applying and state your professional goals and aspirations:

• Emergency Medical Care,

• Health Education,

• Health Management or

• Nutrition

2. Explain your motivation for applying to the MHS program at Western Carolina University.

3. Describe formal and informal experiences that reflect your potential for success in graduate course work.

4. Envision and express how this graduate degree will allow you to contribute to the improvement and innovation of the discipline.
