November 11: Veterans Awareness Day

It’s Never Too Late to Welcome Veterans Home

Americans across the country celebrate Veterans Day on November 11, a special day to salute the men and women who have bravely served our country in the military. When I meet with Veteran patients and their families, I find that some of them did not receive the recognition or welcome home they deserved – especially those who served in the Vietnam War era. That’s why [your organization] is committed to providing Veteran-centric care for those Veterans facing a serious or life-limiting illness in our community.

[Your organization] is a part of an innovative program, We Honor Veterans, developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Through We Honor Veterans, we are ensuring that our organization is equipped to address the unique needs of our nation’s Veterans.

A generation of World War II and Korean War Veterans are facing end-of-life care decisions now, and they are quickly being followed by younger Vietnam War Veterans, many of whom are confronting serious illnesses at an even earlier age.

Throughout the year, I participate in the We Honor Veterans program by connecting Veteran patients with Veteran volunteers, recognizing them with pinning ceremonies, and connecting them with Veteran-specific resources in our community and the VA. In this way, we make sure every day is Veterans Day at [Your Organization].

The liberty that we enjoy comes at a price paid by these valiant men and women. Let each of us make sure we do our part to recognize and support them at all stages of life.

To all our nation’s Veterans, I thank you for your service.
