Job Title: Accountant II

Reports To: Finance Manager

Job Summary:

Perform duties to review, monitor, prepare, and reconcile accounting related transactions and processes.

Essential Functions:

Provide information regarding accounting transactions to the accounting supervisors and managers.

Follow established accounting procedures, copy, collate, classify and organize accounting documents and transactions. Process contractor estimates for payment as scheduled.

Critically examine records, payments, and receipts for accuracy according to established contract agreements, rules, and departmental procedures. Review work of Accounting Services personnel.

Reconcile and generate payroll records and cash reports to the automated financial record keeping system.

Cooperate with department employees and other District managers and employees who are customers of the finance and accounting department. Maintain good rapport with District employees and vendors who utilize finance and accounting services. Assist on District teams and projects. Fill in for Accounting Services personnel as needed.

Make decisions in conjunction with other team members and supervisors to determine project cost approach. Choose appropriate material to complete projects such as source documents and invoices as needed.

Prepare statistics, numerical, and accounting information for input into the management information system. Use the computerized system to store and retrieve information. Monitor interfaces from maintenance management system and payroll system to the automated financial record keeping system.

Maintain administrative documentation and make appropriate adjustments. Post journal entries and accounts payable transactions to the automated financial record keeping system. Prepare monthly cash receipts and disbursements report.

Prepare accurate cost and time estimates for finance system and make adjustments as required. Continually review finance system records for checks and balances.

Design fixed asset flowcharts and format reports. Continually be aware of methods and activities that can improve the efficiency of the accounting operation. Prepare reports and schedules for annual budget and annual audit.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting or Finance.

Experience: Four (4) years of general accounting experience.

Specific Skills: None.

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc: None.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Working Conditions:

General office environment.

Physical Demands:

A majority of time spent sitting with occasional standing and walking.

Interfaces:

Internal: Interfaces with District personnel throughout the organization.

External: Interfaces with general public, agencies, and other corporations.
