Position Title: Project Associate III, The New Community College Initiative

Department: Office of Academic Affairs, City University of New York

Position Description: Reporting to the Associate Director, the Project Associate will provide analytic and project management support to the University’s new community college. The work involves working with other members of the planning team as well as the working committees charged with the development of the new community college. The associate will work directly with the Project Manager to develop and track detailed work plans, identify risks, and suggest contingencies. The nature of the work will be dynamic and changing as the overall scope of the project progresses. This position is ideally suited to a current graduate student interested in management, higher education, assessment or public policy.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Work with the project manager to insure the alignment of project deliverables and the corresponding work plans as well as to insure that planning team members are briefed on upcoming due dates.

• Prepare multiple views of the project plan and other reports for various stakeholders.

• Conduct literature reviews and background research on the programmatic and organizational topics related to the planning and development of the new community college.

• Conduct interviews and site visits along with other members of the planning staff.

• Develop briefing papers for the working committees charged with the development of the new community college.

• Attend working committee meetings comprised of faculty and staff, synthesize those deliberations and prepare notes for the planning group.

• Other planning research activities as assigned.

Qualifications: Candidates should have a strong interest and/or experience in higher education, especially in an urban setting. In addition, they should possess:

• Demonstrated experience taking initiative, collaborating and working independently

• Outstanding research and writing skills; along with an analytical ability to engage in complex problem solving.

• Meticulous attention to details with a keen eye towards accuracy and precision.

• Experience working with MS Project is desirable as is a comfort with new technologies.

Hours: 12-18 Hours per week

Salary: $25 per hour
