JOB DESCRIPTIONTitle:Minority/Disability Intersectional Discrimination Project OfficerReports to: Deputy DirectorSalary: Grade D (0.4/2 days per week) This is a part time post 2 days a week to be based at MRG’s Head Quarters in London, UK.A:Purpose of the jobThe main purpose of the job is to implement/advise all MRG staff who are involved in implementing a new project that will focus on exploring the intersectional discrimination experienced by minority and indigenous community members with disabilities. The work will involve carrying out or advising on scoping and network building visits, drafting or commenting on shadow reports to UN and regional bodies, supporting the capacity building of MRG partners working on disability and building MRG’s links with organisations working with and representing people with disabilities who also experience discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, race, language or religion. Some of the work will be personally delivered by the post holder but the post holder will also advise staff who are experts on a particular country as to how to best incorporate the project activities within their ongoing work in that country.B:Main duties and responsibilitiesThe tasks include, but are not limited to: Support staff to plan and carry out or personally plan and carry out visits to 8-10 countries to seek to establish links with organisations led by persons with disabilities and seek to create relationships and networks between those organisations and MRG partners.Support staff or personally work with partner to collect and collate evidence of intersectional discrimination in at least 4 cases and report it to relevant UN and regional monitoring bodies.Support minority and indigenous persons with disabilities to travel to lobby in support of such shadow reports or at other similar opportunities.Support interactions with MRG’s partners to raise aware of people with disabilities within their beneficiaries and communities and discuss ways to mainstream them in service delivery and advocacy.Personally represent MRG on this issue at relevant meetings and eventsLiaise closely with the International Disability Alliance regarding the joint work on this project.Design and run training events on intersectional discrimination for MRG partners, persons with disabilities and/or donors and international actors and other relevant stakeholders.Manage elements of the project budget, monitor expenditure, manage any variations to planned budgets, work carefully within donor budget constraints.Work with the fundraising team and at time, grantees, to put together bids for funding including drafting budgets, logframe and programme descriptions. Draft project reports to donors.Working with partners to ensure information is gathered on all activities run to support monitoring and evaluation. Give partners feedback on activities, suggest changes to the programme based on learning. Identify barriers to the success of the project and work out ways to overcome or avoid these.Be aware of security considerations that may affect the partners and or the project and work to minimise the risk of adverse consequences to partner organizations and project staff.Liaise and coordinate work with other colleagues working on the same countries/with the same partners/using similar methodologies.Identify and liaise with other organisations also working in this area.Ensure that project activities, results and impacts are to the agreed standard, on schedule, and within budget and alert the Deputy Director where this may not be the case for any activities implemented by colleagues and not by the post holder.C: As neededUndertake such other tasks as may reasonably be requested by the Deputy DirectorRespect and work towards full implementation of MRG’s gender and equal opportunities policies in all the work involved in this postTravel to programme countries will be needed as well as potentially to other countries. Although the primary purpose of this post is as described above, the post holder may be required to work partly or wholly on other areas of MRG’s work. This is to allow MRG to move staff away from work which is un-funded or under-funded or is no longer a priority for the organisation, to work on areas which have more funding, are growing or which are understaffed. This will normally involve the post holder in carrying out tasks similar or identical to those listed in this job description but applied to different programmes or projects PERSON SPECIFICATIONTitle:Minority/Disability Intersectional Discrimination Project OfficerA. Education and KnowledgeEssentialAn excellent knowledge of disability advocacy and discrimination experienced by people with disabilitiesAn undergraduate degree or four years relevant work experience in a professional role. Some knowledge of minority rights, discrimination on the grounds of race/ethnicity, language or religion, interethnic relations or similar gained either through work or study.B. ExperienceEssentialAt least two years’ experience of either advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities or capacity building of people with disabilities or supporting networks of people with disabilities.One years’ experience of managing a project budget of over ?50,000 including activities in different countries.At least one years’ experience of project management, including intervention design, managing schedules, monitoring and evaluation of projects. At least one years’ experience of working with small charitable organizations/partners in the developing world.DesirableExperience of working on minority or related issues. Experience of working with members of minority communities.C. Abilities and SkillsEssentialGood communication skills both verbally and in writingGood written and spoken EnglishComputer literate and knowledge of Word for Windows, spreadsheets, databases, the Internet and email packages.Numerate and able to understand and present figures.Excellent organization and management skillsAbility to prioritise work, meet deadlines.Ability to stay calm under pressure and to assess and absorb information quickly.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Ability to gain the confidence of members of minority communitiesAbility and willingness to travel as required.
