Reporting relationshipsResponsible to:Various - Prison Counselling Service Manager, Level?4?SCThis position:Generic - Prison Counsellor - Level 2 Specified CallingsDirect reports:NILOverview of the positionThe Health Services branch, within the Community Corrections, Health and Offender Management directorate, is accountable for delivering its services to patients in?custody based on Chronic Disease (Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, asthma), Infectious Diseases, sexually transmissible diseases and Blood Bourne Viruses, Co-morbidity (Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services and Mental Health Services) and Acute Care and Emergency Services.The Prison Counselling Service is a seven (7) days a week service and is maintained via weekend shift work (prescribed hours) in some prison sites.The Prison Counsellor is responsible for applying discipline specific professional knowledge, experience, and skills to provide evidence based clinical assessment and intervention services in response to psychological health needs of prisoners identified at acute risk of suicide or self-harmat chronic risk of suicide or self-harm, or otherwise vulnerable within the prison system orhaving difficulties coping, adjusting to prison or in transition to release. Identifies and undertakes assessments and clinical interventions for clients at risk of self-harm and suicide, and presenting with other clinical needs.Therapeutic Assessment and Intervention SkillsUtilises knowledge and understanding of evidence based psychological models of assessment and interventions across a range of clinical munication and Interpersonal SkillsProfessionally writes case file notes, and other documents for clinical and non-clinical audiences.
