FOREWORD

The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) is pleased to publish its annual provincial prospectus for teacher development. The intention of this prospectus is to provide details of all formal teacher development programmes to be offered within the province during the upcoming academic year. It therefore includes all programmes offered by the ECDoE and its partners in teacher development, i.e. teachers unions and higher education institutions.

The ECDoE teacher development programmes featured in this prospectus all comprise 5-day residential workshops to be offered during school holidays, as well as the provincial ICT Skills training on offer in 2019. The intention is to ensure that good quality training is provided that will impact on teaching and learning practice, and that no classroom is left without a teacher during contact time.

While the focus of the ECDoE teacher development programmes remains specifically on the teaching of reading and mathematics in the GET Band in 2019, the programmes on offer for the FET Band have been expanded to include Grade 10-12 subjects.

All teachers and school managers within the province are encouraged to participate in the teacher development programmes scheduled for 2019 as these focus on the key areas of priority within the province and are directly linked to improving learner performance.
