Back in the Day

Back in the Day …As your culminating writing project for quarter one of your freshman year, you will be writing a short story with a very specific topic: the date of your birth. Use the Wikipedia page for your birthday to find a list of events that happened throughout history on your birthday. Pick one, and write a story in which you pretend to have lived through that event.Your birthday is _______________________________Your chosen event is ______________________________________________________What year did your chosen event happen? ____________________Requirements:Your story must be at least 600 words long. This is pretty short (about twice as many words as there are on this assignment sheet), so don’t get too bogged down with trying to come up with a complicated plot. You MUST use good voice. As you can see below, this is a huge chunk of your grade. I want to see strong evidence of your personality in your writing because that is what voice is all about. See that back of this sheet for a reminder of what I mean by “good voice.” The plot of your story must somehow revolve around a major event from history that happened on your birthday. You are a character in your story, and you are somehow involved in your chosen event. You can write your story in the form of diary entries, or you can write it in a more typical short story way.Grading:Voice (see the back of this sheet): 35 points Ideas and details (interesting plot; important sensory details): 10 pointsOrganization (proper paragraphing; good plot progression from exposition through rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution): 10 pointsDue dates:Rough draft: Beginning of the hour on Monday, October 19Final copy: End of the hour on Monday, November 2Does it sound like me?
