Practices are every Friday from 3:30 to 4:15 pm in room B11.Your coach is Ms. WestbrookThe first competition will be Saturday, November 16, 2013This competition is an invitational competition, which means that Ms. Westbrook may assign more than3 Mathematics Team competitors per grade level . The District competition date will be either in April or May of 2014. This date has not been finalized. The district competition will be at Harpool Middle School. Ms. Westbrook is only allowed to bring 3 students to compete at each grade level for the District meet in the spring of 2014.A 6th grade student may compete for the 7th grade team, a 7th grade student may compete for the 8th grade team, but an 8th grader MAY NOT compete on the 7th or 6th grade team. A 7th grader MAY NOT compete on the 6th grade team. Both the Invitational and District Mathematics UIL Competition Tests are 50 multiple choice questions.Both the Invitation and District Mathematics Competition Tests will cover: Numeration systems (Real, Irrational, Rational, Natural, etc)Arithmetic operations with +, -, x, and ÷ of fractions, decimals, integers, percentagesExponents and order of operationsProbabilityStatisticsSimple Interest I=prtMeasurements ConversionsGeometry and AlgebraNumber Theory (commutative, associative, distributive and other properties)The Mathematics Test is 50 Multiple Choice questions.You will have 30 minutes to complete the test.You may NOT use a calculator.The highest score you can make is a 250.You MAY write your work on the test (But if you compete in Number Sense, you MAY NOT write on the test!!).Each correct answer is worth 5 points.Each wrong answer is worth -2 points.A good strategy is to skip the questions you think are too difficult. Don’t spend time on them!You will NOT be deducted for skipped answers! AWARDS include both individual medals for most points, and TEAM medals for most points per team.
