Phase 2

Immersing Ourselves into our Creator

Week Five Handout

Matt 28:19

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

• To begin with immersing ourselves into the Son we must start by seeing where He shows up in Scripture.

Col 1:15-17

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

• To immerse ourselves into Jesus, we must begin with creation. All of creation is the work of Jesus’ hands.

Creation reveals the Creator

"Creation is the primary and most perfect revelation of the Divine." -- Thomas Aquinas

• There are two books that tell us about who God is and what He is like:

a. The Bible and Creation – Both tell us about God in different ways

i. The Bible tells us about God, His character, His power, His beauty, His perfection, His strength, His Love

ii. Creation displays it physically. We see His character, His power, His beauty, His perfection, His strength, His Love. We see in Creation that the story we read in the Bible is true.

Rom 1:20

20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

• The Bible and Creation never contradict each other. They complement each other.

Ps 19:1-6

19 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.

3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.

4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.

• In creation we see God’s character

Immersing ourselves into creation, immerses us into the Creator

“Through admiring the visible, we admire the invisible” - Pope John Paul II

“The most embarrassing time in an atheist’s life is when in nature he is overwhelmed with thankfulness and he has no one to thank.” G.K. Chesterton

• You can’t escape creation because you can’t escape yourself. We are God’s greatest creation.

How do I immerse myself into Creation?

• We have become so used to the extraordinary that it has become ordinary. Stop!!! Pay attention to the extraordinary.

Heb 11:1-3

11 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

2 This is what the ancients were commended for.

3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

• Today is your wake up call. WAKE UP!!!!!

a. See your Jesus everywhere you look.

b. Slow down- stop and smell the roses, set apart time to purposely engage with it

c. Take pleasure in it, adore it, revel in it, enjoy it

d. Do this with The Creator, Jesus Christ, and bless Him for it. Praise Him for it, thank Him for it. Adore Him for it.

Homework:

1. In your journal, write a poem about His creation.

2. The next time you walk past a flower, sniff it, study it, wonder at its beauty, thank the Creator for it.

3. Mark out 1 square foot in your back yard and study it. Write down notes about what you discover. Do it with your Creator.

4. Watch one sunrise/sunset.

5. Read thru Psalm 104, 139, 148, Job 38-41

6. Do all these things by giving Him credit and glory for it. See what begins to happen in your soul as you do that in relation to experiencing Him.

St. Basil was a guy who lived back in the 300’s – and even back then, he said this. “I want creation to penetrate you with so much admiration that wherever you go, the least plant may bring a clear remembrance of the Creator. One blade of grass or one speck of dust is enough to occupy your entire mind in beholding the art with which it has been made.”
