Massage Basics

A. Who are massage therapists?

- Massage therapists are licensed health professionals who apply a variety of scientifically developed massage techniques to the soft tissue of the body.

B. Do you need a prescription to see a massage therapist?

- No. While your physician may refer you to a massage therapist, you can seek the services of a massage therapist directly.

C. Where will the massage take place?

- The service is offered within a Weston Group therapy clinic or within the privacy of your own home. The environment should be warm, comfortable and quiet.

D. How is the massage paid for?

- Therapeutic Massage is NOT generally covered by insurance companies or Medicare. Participants will be responsible for the associated fees. Gift certificates are available.

“Millions of Americans are discovering that the ancient art of massage may be just what the doctor ordered to relieve pain, encourage healing, and even to just plain relax their stressed-out bodies."

-- Chicago Sun-Times

Receiving a Massage

• You will be more comfortable if you don’t eat a couple of hours before your massage.

• You can start the relaxation process by taking a shower or bath before your appointment.

• Remove your jewelry

to allow for smooth

movement.

• If you wear glasses or contact lenses, remove them so that it is safe to massage around the eyes.

• Undress to your comfort level and place yourself under the drape. Being draped by linens honors both the modesty of client and therapist.

• Communication is essential. Let the therapist know if the pressure is to your comfort level. Feedback will help you have a more joyful and relaxing experience. Ask the therapist any questions you may have about the techniques or massage in general.

Types of Massage

Deep Tissue – delves deep into the muscle tissue. Removes lactic acid build-up, adhesions, lesions and congestion, allowing the muscles to work to their fullest potential.

Indian Head Champissage –

A relaxing massage of the head, neck, shoulders, back and arms. Can be performed anywhere because it is so flexible; no undressing necessary and no special equipment is required.

Reiki – energy healing; no muscle manipulation
