In-Class Activity #1

Part 1

• Partner with another classmate and choose who is going to be the teacher and who is going to be the student.

• Closing their eyes the student is to explore the objects in envelope #1. Do not open your eyes during the activity.

• The teacher is to read the instructions that are on the outside of the envelope and then teach the student the task.

• Switch roles - the student now becomes the teacher and the teacher becomes the student. The student will explore with his or her eyes closed the objects inside of envelope #2. The new teacher will then read the instructions on the outside of envelope #2 and then teach the student the task.

• Imagine that you are watching or listening to a child who is between 2 and 5 years of age. Name a skill that the child is learning to do. What is the can you see or hear the child doing on their own?

• What might you say or do next to help the child build on that skill?
