SUMMARY

The position of Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the recordkeeping and accounting activities of the financial institution. Makes recommendations relating to budget preparation, profit forecasts and operational changes as needed. The position is also responsible for ensuring all activities run smoothly and efficiently in the accounting department by providing leadership, training, and supervision to the personnel and ensuring compliance with the financial institution’s policies and procedures as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations. The position is responsible for attaining established bank goals through active participation with executive management, appropriate federal and state regulatory bodies and external partners and associations. The position is responsible for supervisory duties of accounting staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Manage the development, implementation and maintenance of the financial institution’s accounting functions, including the interface with the core data system

2. Manages day to day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable.

3. Maintains Quickbooks based Accounting for SV Financial.

4. Assists in preparation of monthly and year end bank and consolidated financial statements and related footnotes.

5. Assist with loan and deposit related reporting for board.

6. Assists with tax return preparation with outside auditing firm including fixed asset system adjustments

7. Prepares regulatory reports as required by federal and state regulatory agencies

8. Provides necessary covenant reporting pertaining to the Holding Company line of credit

9. Manages and coordinates investment pledging for public entity and repurchase agreement customers

10. Assists with the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecast processes

11. Assists with variance analysis of monthly financial results

12. Assists with preparation and delivery of performance metric reporting

13. Assist with gathering necessary data for federal/state examiners and outside independent auditors in their regular official examinations of the financial institution

14. Maintains necessary reconciliations for the Custodial CD program.

15. Provides necessary financial information needed by other departments for various legal applications, etc.

Other Functions

16. Assists other managers and officers in resolving inquiries and providing managerial support; participates in various internal committees assigned by senior management

17. Plays a major role in the development and growth of department staff through excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong delegation skills assuring a highly cross trained staff

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The position of AVP Accounting Manager is responsible for the supervision of the Staff Accountant and Accounting Assistants.

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The environment for this position is an open office that is mostly clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.

The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 30 pounds), carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial position, with preference in experience with financial institutions. Background in financial institution accounting and auditing, operations and policies and procedures related to procurement. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, is required to be applicable to the financial industry

• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. CPA preferred but not required

• Advanced experience, knowledge and training in progressively responsible department operations and supervisory activities

• Thorough understanding of management procedures; ability to plan department activities (setting objectives, developing strategies, budgeting, and developing policies and procedures); initiative to organize various functions necessary to accomplish department of financial institution activities; effectively staff (selecting, training and developing employees); ability to direct employees toward desired objectives (delegating, motivating, resolving problems).

• Proficiency with MS windows platform, MS Excel spreadsheet, and database management

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures

• Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.

• Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.

• Effective organizational and time management skills.

• Ability to work with no supervision while performing duties.

• Current Illinois driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.

The incumbent must be able to perform this position safely, without endangering the health or safety to him/herself or others.
