Speech of Introduction Assignment #1

As we begin our journey with human interaction, it is important for all of us to get to know each other. This is not your typical introduction. Here I would like to have each of you truly think and look inside ourselves on who we really are and to use both verbal and nonverbal forms of expression. I have outlined a simple format of questions to help you get started, and you are strongly encouraged to add to this list and share anything else about yourself you think we need to know. The better we know our classmates, the better we can interact with them and reach them through our speeches. You are not limited to these questions, feel free to add more information.

Tell us about yourself:

1. Who are you—not just a name, but what kind of person are you?

2. What makes you, you?

3. How have you changed over the years? Was it a good or bad change?

4. What made you change? Why or How?

5. In your life, who do you admire or love most? Why?

6. What is the most common misperception about you? Why?

7. Talk about your family and how they have or have not been an influence on what makes you you.

8. Educational and career goals—what do you want to be doing professionally in 10 years?

9. What personal goals do you have for the future—including family, where you want to live, etc…

10. What is one word that best describes you that you want us to remember you by? (keep it clean)

11. Has there been an event or person in your life that has shaped you?

Remember to use examples and anecdotes to bring your speech to life!

Note: Each presentation should be at least 5-6 minutes. Work on using eye contact for at least half the time, and we will leave time for questions after your 5-6 minutes.

Most importantly, be yourself and have fun with this assignment!
