Laurie Williams moved that they be approved, and Kirsten Shabanowitz seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.Principal’s Report – Michael PellegrinoMr. Pellegrino thanked everyone for attending the meeting and for all the help the PTA provides at the school.Parents as Educational Partners (PEP) starts next week. This program gives parents with language barriers an opportunity to come to the school in the evening and ask questions and connect with school administrators in order to be able to be more involved in the school community. Evergreen Mill is doing this for the first time this year.The Book Fair is coming next week. Fall pictures are on October 16th.He mentioned that he has an open door policy. Come in, call, or email with any questions or concerns.President’s ReportMaureen Kirk welcomed all members and gave a summary of some things that have been going on recently. We had unprecedented demand for Python Pacers, so the program started with a limit of 40, which was later increased to 50. We may need to look into increasing the size in the future. Our first two spirit nights were not well attended. We should discuss how to change that. The Clothing Swap was good, though not well attended. We had lots of donations. Leftovers were donated to Hope’s Treasures. ASEP starts next Wednesday. We have 118 kids signed up to attend nine classes. The PTA gave out 20 ASEP scholarships.Treasurer’s ReportBudget Update: Mike Taylor, Treasurer, provided a written report. He proposed that we increase the assembly budget by $500 to a total of $1,500. Stephanie DeWan moved that we increase the budget item. Mandy Bianchini provided a second. The motion passed unanimously.He proposed that we increase the Read-A-Thon budget by $700 to $1,200. Stephanie DeWan moved that we do so. Kirsten Shabanowitz seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.The Diary of a Wimpy Kid pre-order program wasn’t in the original budget. Melissa Dukes moved that we add this item. Lisbeth Immel seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.School date books were added as a separate item. Maureen Kirk pointed out that this item belongs in the Planners & Folders budget.The cost of TIME4Kids should be taken out of the Grants budget. Mandy Bianchini moved that it be listed separately. Kirsten Shabanowitz seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.Lisbeth Immel moved that the PTA approve the Treasurer’s Report. Kate Akers seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.Audit Report: Mike Taylor presented the Local Unit Audit Report for approval. Stephanie DeWan moved that it be approved. Kate Akers seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.Report of Standing CommitteesMaureen pointed out the back of the agenda where there are updates from committee chairs who could not attend or chose not to speak at the meeting.Monster Mash: Karen Morgan explained that planning is well underway for the second year of this event, which will be Friday, October 30th, from 6:30-8:30 pm. She gave a quick summary and put out a call for volunteers. She asked about getting reimbursed for items purchased by the co-chairs, and Mike Taylor explained the procedure.Special Project Funding/Grants: Stephanie DeWan described the committee and what it does. The budget is $5,000 this year. Read-A-Thon: Stephanie DeWan explained that it is going so well that we have already exceeded our goal of $12,000, so we know we don’t need another fundraiser this year. Only 30% of the kids in the school are actually participating in the fundraising aspect. Discussion of how to get more people involved followed. If anyone has ideas, please share them with Stephanie DeWan.Staff Appreciation: Kirsten Shabanowitz provided a handout with the committee’s plans for the year, and explained that the Back to School luncheon went really well. She described the plans for October, November, and December.Student Directory: Deirdre Rommelmeyer explained that the directory is in process, but is a couple of weeks behind the previous year’s deadlines. The directory should be out late in October. Donuts with Dad: Lisbeth Immel provided an update for this event, which is taking place October 14-16. Pythons on the Town: There was discussion of the fact that our first two events have not been well attended and suggestions for how to address this issue. Old Business Sponsorship Plan: Maureen Kirk explained that there has been discussion of getting business sponsorships/partnerships to raise money or get volunteers. If anyone has ideas or would want to run the committee, let her know. New Business Amazon Smile: Mandy Bianchini described the program, which will help fill the gap left since so many grocery stores no longer have programs. Teacher Raffle: There was a short discussion about when to have it, and it was decided to have it at Pasta Night in January. December General Membership Meeting Change: There was a short discussion, resulting in moving the December meeting to Wednesday, Dec 2nd at 7 pm.Study Buddies: Mr. Lani described the program and put out a call for volunteers. Next MeetingThe next meeting will be Wednesday, November 4th, at 9 am in the Teacher’s Lounge. Karen Morgan moved that we adjourn the meeting. Lisbeth Immel provided a second.
