MOLE DAY PROJECTS

J.P. STEVENS H.S. – MR. C’S CLASSES

Mole Day is quickly approaching.  To celebrate this very special day, there are a few things you will be asked to complete (3 PARTS).  You can choose any project from the Part 2 list below.     All assignments are worth a total of 75 pts (QUIZ GRADE).  Points earned are based on the quality of the completed assignment.  Some assignments require a 1-page typed report along with your project that you create.  You may only choose one project in Part 2, so choose wisely!

SINCE WE WILL NOT BE TOGETHER TO ENJOY THE CREATIONS, YOU NEED TO TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR CREATION AND SUBMIT IT IN THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM FOR CREDIT.  IF THERE IS A REPORT REQUIRED, YOU MUST SUBMIT IT IN THE CLASSROOM TOO.

PART I: (25 POINTS)

Create a poster on a piece of computer paper or construction paper (8.5” x 11”) showing one of the following mole slogans:   The poster should be creative and colorful.  Images may be taken from the internet provided you cite your source(s).



PART II: (25 POINTS)   YOU MUST CHOOSE 1 OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. Make a STUFFED MOLE and give it a costume and name. 

2. Research the properties of the fabric you select to use to make the mole.   REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT.

3. Make and decorate A MOLE CAKE OR CUPCAKES.  Be creative.  Explain the function of baking soda in the baking process. Include the formula and reaction(s) involved.  REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT.

4. Make and decorate A BATCH OF MOLE COOKIES.  Be creative.

For each ingredient used, convert into moles.  Example:   convert 1 cup of sugar (sucrose) into moles.

       THE 1 PAGE REPORT IS SHOWING YOUR CALCULATIONS.

5. Make a creative A MOLE PINATA.  Research the role of glue and paper mache in holding it together.  Be creative.

REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT.

6. Make A MOLE STORYBOOK.  You can create the storyline. (Stay in good taste) 

It must have at least five pages, pictures (drawn or replicated), and include some related vocabulary terms.

7. Write and perform A MOLE SONG & DANCE, OR CHEER.  Send in video of your work. (copy of lyrics required)

8. Construct A 3-D MOLE HOUSE using any materials you like.  

              REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT explaining the materials you chose to make the house out of.

9. Create A MOLE GAME that can be played.

REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT explaining the objective of the game.

10. Make A LARGE FABRIC MOLE BANNER.  Use themes from this year.

11. Decorate a MOLE cup, a plate, and a napkin. REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT 

              Compare and contrast the benefits and negatives to using paper, plastic, and Styrofoam.

12. Decorate a bottle of MOLE soda.  REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT.

Explain your research how soda is bottled, include the pressure that the gas is under.  Discuss what your favorite soda is, where it is bottled, and what happens after a period of time to the soda.

13. Decorate a container of MOLE milk.  REQUIRES A 1 PAGE REPORT.

Research what a colloid is and relate it to this year in chemistry.
