Effective May 1, 2017, BCBSNC has adopted Avalon's network, and laboratories contracted with Avalon are eligible to provide in-network laboratory services for BCBSNC members under age-65 and enrolled in underwritten and administrative services only products, including but not limited to North Carolina State Health Plan, the Federal Employees Program, and non-Medicare Advantage members eligible through the BlueCard? program.

Additionally, reference laboratory services provided by the laboratories affiliated with BCBSNC participating health care systems, medical centers, facilities and hospitals are eligible to provide reference laboratory services for the locations they serve.
