Initial Concept Map Assignment (Individual) – After class on overview of problem solving, forming groups, and selecting projects. This is paired with an assignment where students were asked to look read a technical paper and pick out elements of problem solving we identified in class and expect to be used in the concept maps. This is an individual assignment.??Submit your work as BOTH a PDF file and a cmap file. Use the standard homework header.Deliverable:Create a concept map to answer the question, “What are key skills involved problem solving and how do they support problem solving?”Base your concept map off of the following skills: Problem Formulation, Representations, Questioning Strategies, Communication, and Evaluation/Self-Awareness. You may add other concepts beyond this list.Based on your group reflections and class discussion, build your map showing how these concepts are related and what the elements of each concept are. Your concept map should answer the question, “Do I understand what each concept is and each concept’s relationship with its linked concepts?” Remember to use linking words to form propositions (concept+ linking word+ concept= proposition).Your concept map should fit on one 8.5”x11” page when printed to a PDF and be easily readable (font size should not be exceedingly small).Problem Formulation Concept sub-Map Assignment (Group) – After class focusing on problem formulation and paired with assignment where students are asked to formulate their chosen problems and report this work in a memo. One person from each team should submit a copy as?a single PDF file AND as a single cmap file.Deliverable:Create a concept map to answer the question, “What are key elements of Problem Formulation and how are they related to each other?”The central concept in your concept map should be Problem Formulation. This is a sub-map in the sense that you built a larger concept map for Problem Solving last week where Problem Formulation was one component. Each individual on your team should have some links around Problem Formulation from their individual concept map. Work together as a team to assimilate these ideas and new ideas from your work on Problem Formulation in Workshop this week. This is a process of examining and refining your ideas and knowledge of Problem Formulation.Your concept map should answer the question, “Do I understand what each concept is and each concept’s relationship with its linked concepts?” Remember to use linking words to form propositions (concept+ linking word+ concept = proposition).Your concept sub-map should fit on one 8.5”x11” page when printed to a PDF and be easily readable (font size should not be exceedingly small).Representations Concept sub-Map Assignment (Group) – After class focusing on the role of representations and defining a few different types (concept maps, decomposition, and critical path analysis) and paired with assignment where students are asked continue developing one of these three representations relevant to their project, which they started in class, and report and describe its roll in their project in a memo. This is a team assignment worth 5 points. One person from each team should submit?a copy as a single PDF file AND as a single cmap file. Use the standard header.?Deliverable:Create a concept map to answer the question, “What are key elements of Representations and how are they related to each other?”The central concept in your concept map should be Representations. This is a sub-map in the sense that you built a larger concept map for Problem Solving Week 9 where Representations was one component. Each individual on your team should have some links around Representations from their individual concept map. Work together as a team to assimilate these ideas and new ideas from your work on Representations in Workshop and Lecture this week. This is a process of examining and refining your ideas and knowledge of Representations.Your concept map should answer the question, “Do I understand what each concept is and each concept’s relationship with its linked concepts?” Remember to use linking words to form propositions (concept+ linking word+ concept = proposition).Your concept sub-map should fit on one 8.5”x11” page when printed to a PDF and be easily readable (font size should not be exceedingly small).Questioning Strategies Concept sub-Map Assignment (Group) – After class focusing on what makes a good question (explanatory versus Yes/No), formulating questions for their projects, and working to answer their own questions. It is paired with an assignment where students are asked cite and explain one critical piece of evidence for their project – that is, a piece of evidence that helps them answer a significant question they had about their project – and one argument drawing on this evidence to support their recommendation/solution to their project. One person from each team should submit a copy as a single PDF file AND as a single cmap file.Deliverable:Create a concept map to answer the question, “What are key elements of Questioning Strategies and how are they related to each other?”The central concept in your concept map should be Questioning Strategies. This is a sub-map in the sense that you built a larger concept map for Problem Solving Week 9 where Questioning Strategies was one component. Each individual on your team should have some links around Questioning Strategies from their individual concept map. Work together as a team to assimilate these ideas and new ideas from your work on Questioning Strategies in Workshop this week. This is a process of examining and refining your ideas and knowledge of Questioning Strategies.Your concept map should answer the question, “Do I understand what each concept is and each concept’s relationship with its linked concepts?” Remember to use linking words to form propositions (concept+ linking word+ concept = proposition).Your concept sub-map should fit on one 8.5”x11” page when printed to a PDF and be easily readable (font size should not be exceedingly small).Communications Concept sub-Map Assignment (Group) – After class focusing on formulating a credible argument (focused on argumentation as a type of communication to justify your project solution – formulating an argument based on presentation in “The Craft of Research” by Booth, Colomb, and Williams) and having students practice evaluating parts of example arguments. It is paired with an assignment where students are asked to use the structure developed in class (claim, reasoning, and evidence) to develop at least one argument for their solution and - One person from each team should submit a copy as a single PDF file AND as a single cmap file.?Deliverable:Create a concept map to answer the question, “What are key elements of Communication and how are they related to each other?”The central concept in your concept map should be Communication. This is a sub-map in the sense that you built a larger concept map for Problem Solving Week 9 where Communication was one component. Each individual on your team should have some links around Communication from their individual concept map. Work together as a team to assimilate these ideas and new ideas from your work on Communication in Workshop and Lecture this week. This is a process of examining and refining your ideas and knowledge of Communication.Your concept map should answer the question, “Do I understand what each concept is and each concept’s relationship with its linked concepts?” Remember to use linking words to form propositions (concept+ linking word+ concept = proposition).Your concept sub-map should fit on one 8.5”x11” page when printed to a PDF and be easily readable (font size should not be exceedingly small).Top of FormBottom of FormFinal Concept Map Assignment (Individual) – After class focusing on evaluation and self-awareness, the final topic in the problem-solving module. This was the second to last week of the class students were also preparing their final project presentations. This exercise asked the students to reflect on their initial individual concept maps and the subsequent group sub-maps focusing on specific elements of problem solving for the purpose of refining their original problem solving concept map or creating a new one to demonstrate how their understanding of problem solving changed. This is an individual assignment.?Similar to the first concept map assignment, create a concept map to answer the question, “What are key skills involved problem solving and how do they support problem solving?”Base your concept map off of the things we have talked about over the past several weeks including the following skills: Problem Formulation, Representations, Questioning Strategies, Communication, and Evaluation/Self-Awareness. You may add other concepts beyond this list.Build your map showing how these concepts are related and what the elements of each concept are. Your concept map should answer the question, “Do I understand what each concept is and each concept’s relationship with its linked concepts?” Remember to use linking words to form propositions (concept+ linking word+ concept = proposition). You may have some overlap with the concept maps your team has created each week for the individual elements.?This is perfectly OK!Your concept map should fit on one 8.5”x11” page when printed to a PDF and be easily readable (font size should not be exceedingly small). Please submit the pdf and cmap of FormBottom of Form ................
