Opening Question:

Think about a time when you were forced to make an important decision without much information. How did you feel trying to make this decision? How did you feel about your final decision?

What were some of the key points that you took away from Sunday’s message?

Study Questions:

1. What do we know about the world and humanity prior to Genesis 12?

2. Read Genesis 12:1-9 and answer the following:

a. What did God call Abraham (Abram) to do? How much detail did God provide?

b. In what ways might have God’s calling been difficult for Abraham? How might have God’s call caused Abraham to rely completely on Him?

c. What did God promise Abraham? How would these promises begin the process of redemption? How were these promises fulfilled in Christ?

d. What do these promises say about God’s heart for all peoples?

3. Read Genesis 15:1-21 and answer the following:

a. What did Abraham do when he had doubts about God’s promises? (Genesis 15:1-3, 8)

b. How did God reassure Abraham? (Genesis 15:4-5, 7, 9-12, 17-21)

c. What is the significance of the fact that Abraham was asleep when God “passed between the pieces”? (Genesis 15:12,17)

4. What do the following passages teach us about Abraham’s faith?

a. Genesis 12:1,4; Hebrews 11:8-9

b. Hebrews 11:10

c. Hebrews 11:17-19

d. Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:20-21

Application Questions:

1. What do God’s promises (people, place, purpose) given to Abraham and fulfilled in Christ mean for your life? Where are you in the Abrahamic Covenant? (Hint: If you are one of the people and are going to the place then you must engage in the purpose)

2. Which lessons in faith from Abraham (question 4) do you need to apply more often in your life? What keeps you from demonstrating faith like Abraham?
