It seems to me that being a teacher is a very interesting job. Where should I start? Well, the job is basically teaching people how to do something. Maybe you’re mostly teaching knowledge or mainly skills, or a mix of both. Usually it happens in schools or universities, but really it can happen anywhere. To do this job well, you need to have a good understanding of your subject and of teaching as well. For example, to become an English teacher, you usually need at least a bachelor’s degree in English, so that you really know the language well, and a Master’s degree in teaching so that you know how to teach.

I think teachers need to have good communication skills, of course, and they need to have good computer skills now too because so much of teaching uses computer technology. Some people may disagree with me, but I think that’s the biggest difference between teaching now and in the past. Teachers just used to need good handwriting for writing on the blackboard, but now they need computer skills to know how to make worksheets and presentations, and how to use apps and blogs.

I believe that teachers have to find out what their students know and can do, and then help them learn things they don’t know or can’t do yet. That sounds simple, but it really depends on the course, what you’re teaching, and it absolutely depends on who you’re teaching. Whether you’re teaching children or adults, you have to try to keep them engaged and focussed, so that they learn, and you have to structure lessons to give some variety of activities to stop students from becoming too bored or falling asleep.

There are many reasons why I feel teaching is an interesting job. The main one is that when you work with people, you never know exactly what’s going to happen. Another reason is that students are people and they’re all different, so they like different things and they learn in different ways. It’s just so fascinating to try to understand each student and how they learn, and then try to make lessons for the whole class that work for each student some of the time. You could spend years teaching the same thing, but it could be different with every new class. That’s why I think teaching is an interesting job.
