BOOK REPORT CHOICES

There are many ways to report on a book once it has been read. After you have finished reading your book, choose a method of reporting on it that interests or appeals to you. It may also be an idea of your own, if approved by the teacher. You might also want to think which might best fit the book. You only need to choose ONE! You may not PURCHASE anything for this project! Please also answer the questions on the back of this page (50 points). Your book must be in a range of your Lexile, 100 below to 100 above.

▪ The Eyes Have It

Do a visual report by making a model of a scene from the book, drawing or sculpting a likeness of one or more characters, or crafting an importance symbol from the book. Please include a summary/description and personal review of the scene.

▪ Time Capsule

Provide people in the future with reasons to read your novel. Inside a time-capsule-shaped design, neatly write your reasons why the book should be read.

▪ Alternate Ending

Can you think of another ending for the story? Be creative and write an alternate ending for your novel. Length= 1 page and visual.

▪ Sales Talk

This is an advertisement to sell your novel to one or more specific groups. You decide on the group to target and the sales pitch you will use. Include some kind of graphics in your presentation. Length= ½ page and visual.

▪ Coming Attraction

Your novel is about to be made into a movie. You have been chosen to design the promotional poster. Include the title, author of the book, listening of main characters and contemporary actors who will play them. Include a drawing from a scene in the book, and a paragraph synopsis of the story that will make audiences want to see the movie. Length= ½ page and visual.

▪ Literature Interview

This report is done in pairs. One student will pretend to be a character in a story. The other student will play the role of a radio or television interviewer, trying to provide the audience with insights into the character’s personality and life that the audience most wants to know. It is the responsibility of the partners to created meaningful questions and appropriate answers. Length= at least 10 questions

▪ Dust Cover Jacket

Design a dust cover jacket for the novel by including the title, author, and an important scene, image, or character on the cover, a book summary on the inside flaps, a teaser (hint at the plot that will make people want to read the book) as well as quotable recommendations for the book (example: “The L.A. Times calls it the best fantasy novel ever”) on the back. You can use quotes from classmates, families, teachers, etc. who have read the book.

For every book please answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper. Answers need to include details from the novel to receive full points. Please use complete sentences and restate the question in your response. You will lose points if incomplete sentences are used. (100 points).

1. Who is the author? What is the name of the book? What is a short summary about the book? {5 sentences}

2. What was your favorite part of the book (Give specific evidence from the book, include the page number)? {3 sentences}

3. Who is the most important character in the story? What makes them the most important (Give specific examples from the book)? {5 sentence}

4. Where does the setting of the story take place? Describe it. {time period/place/what is the place like} {3 sentences}

5. If you could be a character in the book who would you be and why (Cite specific examples from the book)? {5 sentences}

6. Who is your least favorite character in the book and why (Cite specific examples from the book)? {5 sentences}

7. What did you learn in this book that you did not previously know before? {3 sentences}

8. What would you have changed about the book to make it better and why? {3 sentences}

9. Why would somebody who hasn’t read this want to read this book? {3 sentences}

10. What theme(s) were exemplified in this novel? {3 sentences}
