Provides coordination, consultation, guidance, support, and assistance to schools in working with parents and families. Assist schools in addressing the needs of low-income and culturally and/or linguistically diverse students and families. Internal consultant on multicultural concerns providing staff support; coordinates committees, task forces and community groups focusing on diversity and multicultural matters. Serves as advisor and resource person for management and staff in the areas of diversity, inclusion, equity. Serves as a referral person to outside agencies in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion and best practices in the areas of culturally relevant pedagogy and practice. Assist in furthering the diversity goals of the district. Supports staff on the district’s Equity Committee.Position Summary?Lead the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity andinclusion initiatives, which will support the District’s strategic plan.?Champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive environment in schools.?Engages classified, certified, administrators, staff, families and students to build a welcoming and inclusive culture at the Eugene School District 4J.?Assess potential barriers and develop strategies focused on recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce.?Design training initiatives on cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other topics designed to increase awareness andsupport of equity and inclusion values, and maintaining compliance withapplicable laws.Supervisory RelationshipThis position reports to the Superintendent or designee and has supervisory responsibility for professional and/or classified staff.Essential Functions?Works collaboratively with District-level instructional leaders to support the use of culturally relevant pedagogy and practice?Plans, guides and advises Superintendent and staff on diversity, equity and affirmative action matters.?Collaborates with District management to create, implement and monitor programs designed to ensure fair and equitable treatment of students, facultyand staff.?Develops and implements training to promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion.?Provides support to district-wide Diversity Councils and Multicultural event programming.?Liaison between members of communities of color, other diverse groups, and the district.?Promotes district commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion through interaction with individuals and agencies inside and outside the District?Gathers, researches and analyzes data for use in statistical calculations and reporting in order to meet federal and state requirements in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion.?Works with Human Resources to develop recruitment strategies that attract underrepresented candidates.?Assists with compliance and development of policies and procedures related to equity, diversity and inclusion.?Manages the department budget, including developing budget proposals, justifying expenses and monitoring accounts.?Manages complex projects with up-to-date information technology knowledge and determines which new technologies are needed to successfully solve problems.?Stays abreast of advances in the area of diversity and prepares written materials (e.g. procedures, reports, memos, letters, budgets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.?Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions for the purpose of providingdirection for meeting the district’s goals and objectives.?Identifies staff diversity training and coordinates/conducts training where appropriate.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities?Knowledge and understanding of racial and cultural differences; sensitivity to issues and concerns of communities of color and other diverse groups.?Ability to relate effectively with the communities of color, students, and school staffs; ability to gain the trust of others and establish credibility.?Ability to interact effectively with and provide guidance to staff, students, parents and community members.?Skill at negotiating and consensus building to support administrative decisions and programs.?Experience in community based work, e.g. Community development, human services, etc.?Fluent speaker, writer and demonstrate a high understand of one foreign language (i.e. Spanish, Korean, etc) in addition to English?Ability to lead and manage professional and classified staff.?Effective oral and written communication skills.?Skill at budget preparation and management.?Ability to interacting with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.?Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.?Ability to effectively manage time and a variety of responsibilities.?Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws; experience with windows-based computing environment.?Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and administrators to develop and implement uses of educational best practices in area of diversity.Minimum QualificationsMinimum of Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sociology, Ethnic Studies or related fields. Master degree preferred.Three (3) years of experience in a multicultural, multiethnic school/community environment, preferably as a teacher or social worker.Equivalent combination of training, experience, and qualifications is considered.
