R – Restate
R – Restate
Restate the question to begin writing your answer. The reader should be able to understand what the question was by reading your first sentence.
A – Answer
Answer the question based on what you have read or what you know.
C – Cite #1
Support your answer. Begin with a transition word. This is where you use evidence from what you have read to support your thinking. Use quotation marks if you copy from the text itself; otherwise, you may paraphrase (put into your own words) what you recall from the text.
E – Extend
Explain your thinking to support your response. This is the “so what?” on why your evidence answers the question.
C – Cite #2
Provide a second example to support your answer. Use a transition word to begin this new idea.
E – Extend
Explain your second supporting detail to show how your choice of citation proves your answer. Conclude by going “beyond” the question.
