• Complete the dictation exercises on the Persian Dictation Exercises website. Listen to the dictation once in its entirety. The second time you listen, write down what you hear. The third time, check what you have written. Check your own work.

• Complete lesson 4 in Five College Persian Manual I.

Conversation Session Preparation Guide

• Be prepared to continue practicing greetings and partings. Dialogues in section I and II in the Manual add to greeting expressions you have learned. What are those? Be prepared to improvise similar scenarios in your conversation session.

• Be prepared to role play the dialogue in section III. Improvise a similar conversation and add to the lines of conversation.

• Be prepared to greet your classmate as a friend; all the verbs in short forms. Remember that using long form of the verb ‘to be’ in conversation sounds strange to native speakers.

• Be prepared to role play the dialogue in Dictation 4c. What can you change in the dialogue to make it more spoken Persian?

• For Exercise 2 in the Manual you translated a passage. Be prepared to present the passage to your classmates and your conversation partner. When your friends present, have some questions ready to ask them after their presentations.

• Be prepared for the practice of asking random questions. In the conversation session each student should ask his or her classmate next to him/her randomly. It can go 5 or more rounds of asking random questions.

• Ask your classmate to imagine to be a new person. Then ask about that character, where s/he is from, nationality, language s/he speaks, understand, write, and where s/he lives, his/her age, and occupation. Be prepared to ask also about his/her family members.

Homework to Hand In at the Tutorial
