To undertake leadership, management and engagement activities. Work within a team-based culture with other research and enterprise staff, and acting in accordance with University behaviours and values.Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities% Time Carry out Enterprise activities such as applied research, consulting, service provision, facilitating spin-offs, trials and testing or other evaluation work (often under supervision of a project leader).30%Design, construct, and evaluate products/ prototypes, models, tests or experiments.25%Consult effectively on own specialism directly with clients or other stakeholders external to the University; develop an area of specialism; may be responsible for peer-to-peer relationship management with client staff.10%Propose specifications/solutions to meet client and other stakeholder need, including pricing considerations. This can include taking a lead on specific technical offerings within a facility for clients and partners.10%Contribute to income generation e.g. participate in winning funding for new projects, by helping to build consortia, managing parts of bids, and providing technical input to proposals.5%Write and edit reports.5%Supervise others, e.g. technicians, casual staff, to achieve end result.5%Collaborate on and develop applied research with colleagues internally, in the University and in other institutions. Participate in impact and public engagement activities. 5%Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder.5%Internal and external relationshipsAs a member of project teams, the post holder will be responsible for defined tasks and may co-ordinate the day-to-day activities of others working on these tasks in a team-based environment.May be asked to serve on a relevant University committees related to Enterprise work, for example Research and Enterprise committee. To attend national and international conferences for the purpose of disseminating our research results and to learn of others' results, building client relationships and public engagement.To undertake occasional short-term travel to project meetings within the UK and internationally (normally within the EU).PERSON SPECIFICATIONCriteriaEssentialDesirableHow to be assessedQualifications, knowledge and experiencePhD or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline.Strong software engineering skills in both front-end (web user interface) and back-end (application, REST API, database) areas.Excellent written and oral communication skills.A practical understanding and aptitude for cyber-security issues. Demonstrable examples of developing technologies that have created positive change and impacts to business and society.Skilled in Java, JavaScript and ReactJSExperience with DevOps technologies: version control (Git), continuous integration and continuous development, Docker, AWS or GCP, CI/CD, and Kubernetes.
