During reading:Teaching Points/Questions:Page #3- After reading mom’s reply, how is this book written differently than most books you read? Scaffold if needed- (most books are just written in paragraph form or normal words on a page, but this book is written in letter format)Page #3- The two letters are written in different print. What is the author trying to show? (the one from Alex is in kid handwriting and the other is neat, like an adult, she’s trying to make it real looking) Page #3- On page 2, the letter was signed, “Your sensitive son, Alex.” After reading mom’s letter, what do you think compassionate means?(sensitive, thinking about others)Page #5- Why did Alex sign his name, “your adorable son”? (he is talking about how cute the iguana is and adorable means cute)Page #10- Look closely at the illustrations, what is the illustrator trying to show?
