THE TABE CONVERSION
THE TABE CONVERSION
We’re helping you make the change!
August 2005
WHAT IS TABE?
TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) is a placement test offered to pre-program students and potential students of NWTC, replacing Accuplacer as the placement test starting in Fall 2005. TABE 9 & 10 are offered online, allowing for immediate results and action to help students move forward. TABE is diagnostic in nature, meaning specific skills or competencies can be targeted versus a general score in the basic education subject areas.
HOW DOES THIS IMPACT MY PROGRAM?
The conversion from Accuplacer to TABE should have a positive impact on your program. Current Accuplacer scores are being converted to TABE equivalents by the Assessment Center, and will be communicated to Program Teams in the Curriculum Modification Process.. From there, Programs need to validate accuracy of scores and make changes where necessary. The intent is to offer a benchmark that more accurately reflects the basic education skills necessary to enter into a program.
WHAT ARE PROGRAMS RESPONSIBLE FOR?
Program Teams are responsible for validating the converted scores accurately reflect the skills necessary for entering the program or the general education course in the program. The following information will be provided to you upon request:
← Conversion of current Accuplacer Score to TABE equivalent
← Course Documentation for all General Education courses, including the New State Aligned Math courses.
← TABE information about contents of the test and meaning of scores
← Communicating any changes on the Curriculum Modification Forms
WHO WILL HELP US WITH THIS PROCESS?
The Assessment Curriculum Team will be available to assist your program during this process. Teams are encouraged to contact Valerie Bielinski x6887 to set-up a time to meet with the team and start this process. There are several TABE/Program Outcome Open Help Sessions scheduled this Fall that can be attended without notice. Please see the VRC for a complete schedule ().
WHEN DO WE NEED TO COMPLETE THIS BY?
TABE score information will be collected along with your Curriculum Modifications, all due on or before December 15th, 2005.
WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
Additional information is available on the Virtual Resource Center () under the Curriculum and Assessment tabs. As always, you can contact Valerie Bielinski x6887 or your divisional representative on the Assessment Curriculum Team for additional information.
HOW DO WE GET STARTED?
Please contact Valerie Bielinski x6887 or valerie.bielinski@nwtc.edu to schedule a time to meet with your team. You may begin this process anytime after September 1, 2005.
Thanks!
