5 Star Learning -We tutor in reading/language, science and math. Our curriculum supports students in grades K-12 for 2 hr. sessions, two times a week or on Saturdays. We have an 85% evidence of effectiveness in academic achievement through Achieve Assessment pre and post test. Each child will receive 15 hours of customized tutoring. Our student teacher ratios are 8:1, 5:1 and lower according to the student's need. We operate in centers using different learning styles including manipulatives. We rotate activities every 10-20 minutes. Every child will be assessed and tutored according to their academic needs. We will communicate with teachers on a regular basis of the students need and send monthly progress reports to parents. Our tutors are certified teachers and paraprofessionals. Group, individualized, in-home and on-line tutoring is available. We have a character building component incorporated in our program. We tutor at convenient community locations as well as schools.

A to Z IN HOME TUTORING provides in person, one-on one tutoring in the comfort and convenience of

the students home. We currently serve students in grades K-12th. All students are pre-tested to determine exactly what specific math and/or reading skills the child needs help with. Days and times of tutoring are coordinated between the parent and tutor with sessions ranging from 1-3 times per week and lasting between 60-120 minutes each session. Our tutors are teachers and qualified experienced professionals with 60+ hours of college credit. According to the 2006-2007 status report, students enrolled in our program had a total of 17% increase on the post test assessment from the pre-test assessment score. Each student gained an average of 5 new math skills and 5 new language arts and reading skills.

A & A Youth Community and Learning Center - A & A Youth Community and Learning Center has provided tutoring to approximately five hundred students over the past five years. A & A Youth Community and Learning Center strategy for closing the achievement gap is based on delivering a skilled assessment which is used to identify students skills, strengths, weaknesses and developing a personalized lessons plan based on those needs. A & A Youth Community and Learning Center instructional program has been approved by individual school teachers and district personnel in Richland School Districts 1 and 2. A & A will serve Elementary, Middle and High School Students. The staff of A & A developed a curriculum, with testing and assessment tools consistent with the State of South Carolina and National standards for English, Language Arts, Reading and Mathematics.

A Better Way Tutoring program approach involves a 3-prong strategy: Learning Style Assessments, Vocabulary Building, and Brain-Based Strategies. We offer instruction in Math and Reading grades 1-8. Each session will last 1-1.5 hours, twice a week and will be held on-site. With our program lasting for 10-weeks, this will equate to 20-30 hours and a total of 20 classes. Instruction will be conducted in a small group setting with the Student-to-Teacher ratio being 8:1. Our tutors are experienced, degreed professionals and junior and senior level pre-service teachers, paraprofessionals and certified teachers. Select students will have access to an electronic reading device that will further improve reading by building vocabulary and increasing confidence. The effectiveness of our program is demonstrated in the use of instructional material that is 100% State Aligned, identification of a child’s dominant learning style, and structuring learning to capitalize on that style

A+ Markem, Inc. – Provides teacher directed after school tutoring in Reading/Language Arts and Math for students in grades K-12. The length of a session is 90 minutes with a frequency of 2 days per week. Our student to tutor ratio is typically 4-8 students per instructor. Students are taught by state certified teachers, college graduates with special skills and/or relevant coursework, and state approved paraprofessionals or the equivalent, who have passed a criminal background check. Our instructors have successfully completed training in the A+ Markem tutorial program. A 2007 study conducted by Cody Ding, PhD, University of Missouri, reported that the rate of improvement of A+ Markem student met “National Model Program” standards. A 2006 study conducted in the state of Virginia reported that students tutored by A+ Markem showed an average gain of 1.1 levels in Reading and 1.4 grade levels in Math.

ABOUT FACE READING -Edna Goble believes all children can learn to read but some need a different method. We teach Reading in grades K-8 and employ current and retired teachers, or paraprofessionals. Classes range from one student per tutor to no more than six. Each student will receive 31 hours of tutoring. The Scott McCleary Diagnostic Reading Inventory was used as a pre and post test to measure students progress. Last year in SC, 98% of our students made some progress in reading, 95% of the students showed a six month gain in their reading accuracy and comprehension, and 88% showed one years gain in their reading accuracy and comprehension. We help build reading confidence, comprehension, and communication skills. Parents and teachers receive weekly progress reports. Academic Assistants Plus, LLC provides one-on-one tutoring (1:1) and small group tutoring (1:5) in English Language Arts/Math. Our program takes a two step approach. The first step is to provide supplemental instruction to improve classroom success, and the second step is to provide instruction with the goal of achieving state standards. We serve grades K5 – 8th. Tutoring will take place in-home, community center or daycare for one hour a week with a total of 22 hours of tutoring. Our tutors have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with full credentials and teaching/tutoring experience, and many have advanced degrees. Using a pre-post test comparison, our students show improvement by 25% - 100% (+) in ELA and Math moving from non-mastery/proficient to proficient/mastery level. Academic Assurance – Our researched based program is designed to assist students in ELA, literacy and/or math education which supports K-12 at each grade level. We offer individual and small group site tutoring, in-home and/or online tutoring. Session lengths are 1.5 – 2 hours per session. Special accommodations are provided to students in need of longer hours We provide up to 20 hours of instruction, but a minimum of 18 hours per student. Our ratio of student to tutor is a maximum of 5:1. Our highly qualified instructors include, but are not limited to SC certified teachers, qualified paraprofessionals, student teachers, and/or college instructors. Our staff consists of former SC Curriculum specialist, retired teachers, college administrators, and a professional literacy coach. Academics Plus, Inc. is a state-certified provider of Supplemental Education Services. We provide free tutoring to students in grades K-8 in Reading and/or Math. Tutoring will take place in the student’s school after regular school hours. Sessions will be two days a week for 90 minutes each. There will be 17 sessions, for a total of 26 hours of free tutoring. We use small group instruction with a student to teacher ratio of 5:1. Tutors are qualified and trained by Academics Plus, Inc. Askia Learning Concept (ALC) will provide an Interdisciplinary/Thematic Critical Thinking program that will identify and serve at-risk students in grades 1 – 12. The goal of the program is to increase student achievement in the areas of Mathematics, Writing, Reading Comprehension (across content), and Divergent Critical Thinking Skills. Focus will be placed SCDE Benchmark Skills. The program will take place during a yearlong extended day program. The program will be conducted four days a week (Monday –Thursday), 90 min. a day for up to 30 weeks. Using a 45 minute rotation cycle, all students will attend the academic tutoring center daily and then choose an alternate center each day. All teachers will be certified in their content areas. Instruction will be provided on a 1 to 8 student to teacher ratio. ALC has over 10 years of demonstrated effectiveness in both rural and metropolitan school districts. Our data shows an average of 14% increase in student test scores.

A-TOTLEY’S LEARNING CENTER - We offer math and reading/ language arts tutorial services to students in grades K to 12. Parents can choose to receive our tutorial services either In the home or At their childs school in a small group environment or at one of our off school-site facilities. The teacher to student ratio is 5:1 in our group environments. The tutorial classes are held Monday through Thursday and Saturdays. The classes are between one to two hours in length and usually start immediately after school during the weekdays and from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays. The teaching staff consists of teachers that possess a minimum of five years of teaching experience and a South Carolina State teaching certificate. In addition, we utilize a few student teachers from accredited universities that are paired with our veteran teachers. Our tutorial program has consistently helped the majority of our students experience a 15% to 25% increase in their testing scores.

ATS PROJECT SUCCESS offers math and reading tutoring online in the comfort and safety of the student’s home, using Pearson Digital Learning Successmaker. Tutoring is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including before/after school, evenings, weekends, school vacations and summer break. The session length is 1 hour. Career Launcher USA, Inc. We provide one-on-one tutoring to students in the convenience of their home and at a time convenient to them. This is done online, over the internet using a computer and connection. Our proprietary software keeps track of the students’ progress, so that the teachers can take corrective actions in school.

Discovery Program of SC -NILD Educational Therapy has effectively worked with struggling students across the world with or without diagnosed learning disabilities. Using the reading components from NILD Educational Therapy, Rx for Discovery Reading is designed for students in grades 1-12 who struggle to read. This multi-sensory approach to discovering reading is a fun and effective approach to building and strengthening reading skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension strategies. These components meet the criteria established by the National Reading Panel. The phonics method is a modified Orton-Gillingham keyword approach that includes spelling instruction. Students will meet for one hour, two times a week. We can serve 4 students per class for 47 hours total during the school year. Instructors are not only experienced teachers but qualified educational therapists, trained to not only tutor but address the underlying issues that impact learning.

Ed101, LLC -The Barnabas Project is a dropout prevention and behavioral intervention program for potentially at-risk youth, with 60 hours of instruction in 3 areas at 20 hours each (hosted at local school, church or community center). Curriculum components include Why Try, a strengths-based approach to behavioral management, truancy and academics currently used in over 5,000 schools and institutions nationwide; Living a Life of Promise, which walks students through the harms of drug and alcohol use and offers guides to alternative activities (led by a licensed counselor); and SES services to include pre- and post-evaluations and tutoring in reading, writing and math (10:2 ratio). Classes are provided in 2-hour blocks, 3x/week for up to 12 weeks. As students successfully complete the program, we hope to match them with adult mentors in their own communities for up to 1 year of follow-up and assessment. In addition, a parental responsibilities discussion group will be offered in a 10-hour format.

Educate Online offers live, online, at-home tutoring in either Reading, or Math using a computer and Internet connection that we provide. Complete the program, keep the computer! We offer a bi-lingual free hotline for computer and Internet support for all our families. We hire certified teachers, teachers with a Bachelors degree, certified paraprofessionals, and tutors with a minimum of 60 college credits.

Educational Enterprises offers a comprehensive tutorial program in the core subjects of Reading / Language Arts and Mathematics. We also focus on Test Taking and Study Skills. Our curriculum focuses on mastering basic skills at all levels. With the experience of certified teachers, retired teachers and trained degreed professionals, we utilize small group (1:8) instruction models to facilitate student success. Sessions will be conducted 2 days per week, 1.5 hours per day for 12-15 weeks. Parents will be notified on student progress monthly as well as bi-weekly. EsumZ – offers computer based tutoring with live tutors in Math, English and Science. Classes are held for 2 hours a week after school. We provide 1 on 1 and small group (1 on 5) tutoring for grades 2 – 12. All of our tutors are state certified/trained graduate tutors. All students are pre-tested and our curriculum is based on SC state standards. Students take our classes using a computer, internet and a headset. If parents do not have computer access, we can coordinate computer and internet usage through public libraries or community centers. Live tutoring sessions are very interactive between students and our tutors. Regular open houses with the parents help us take corrective measures to achieve the set academic goals. SD students who attended at least 25 hours of our tutoring program last year showed an improvement of at least one grade level. EVANS LEARNING -Grades K-8. Evans Learning will serve students individually and in small group settings. Will serve regular education, students classified as LD in special education and those who speak Spanish. Approximately 33-35 tutoring hours (16 classes) based on per pupil allotment and maximum student teacher ratio of 8:1. Students previously have shown a 25% gain in reading and in math. Tutors are certified, paraprofessionals, retired teachers and must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours to qualify to teach. Services are available 6 days per week, 2 hour sessions twice a week Monday-Saturday. Evans Learning has aligned itself with Vanderbilt Peer Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS Reading) and the University of Chicago (Everyday Math) Mathematics Projects). Both are research-based curriculums, aligned with South Carolina State Standards and accepted by the United States Department of Education.

FUNdamentals Free Tutoring - FUNdamentals small group instruction allows students to receive individualized instruction in a comfortable setting where they are accompanied by their peers. Our tutors will never work with more than six students, our average group size is 2 – 3 students per tutor. Our instructors are highly qualified and trained teachers. We work with grades K-5 in reading and math. The materials are of high interest and are inviting for the students and teachers involved. Tacoma Washington Public Schools implemented the Options Intervention program to improve classroom performance and raise scores of Title I students on the state assessment test. According to the data collected, there was an average gain of 55% in Language Arts and 60% in Math. “FUN” approaches to learning and caring people are what make our program a success.

Hamilton and Harris Educational Consulting Group offers a comprehensive tutorial program in the core subjects of Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics, grades K-12. Our session length per student is 1.5 hours twice a week. Our student to tutor ratio is 1:5. We also focus on test-taking and study skills. Our teachers are degreed, certified or have at least 2 years of college and have experience working with various populations. Our curriculum focuses on mastering basic skills at all levels. Our intensive research-based programs will help students improve their academic achievement. We offer a comprehensive, fun and interactive academic program and use one-on-one and small group instruction along with many hands-on activities to ensure that standardized test scores as well as homework scores continue to increase substantially. Our experienced staff maintains regular communication with student's, teacher, parents and school administrator. We are also an in-home tutoring provider.

HARVEST ADVANTAGE – provides 18 hours of tutoring services to students in grades K-12, in the subjects of English, reading, math, or science. Each session is 1-2 house long and based on the needs of the student. We offer one on one tutoring, small group tutoring with no more than 5 students to 1 tutor and online tutoring. Tutoring services can be provided in the home, school, library, a community center or on line. Parents requesting online tutoring can have unlimited services, 7 days a week until August 31, 2010.

Tutor use a wide range of materials to help students, including the child’s textbook, assignments tailor made for the child, educational games and songs, workbooks or lessons from the Internet. We specialize in helping students with disabilities master academic skills as well as helping them get organized. Tutors are college trained with a 2009 background check on file. In the past 5 years 89.5% of our reading students and 78% of our math students showed improvements.

Helping Hands Tutoring provides tutoring in Language Arts, Reading and Math to children in grades K-12including ESL and special needs. Our program is based on goal-setting, positive feedback, rewards, and small group interaction. Your child will meet with their tutor individually or in small groups (5 students maximum) once or twice a week for 19 – 22 hours. Our tutors are certified teachers and paraprofessionals who are dedicated to helping children. Tutoring will be held in a safe, positive and encouraging environment - usually at your child's school, church or community center - at a time arranged by you and the tutor. Your tutor will regularly communicate with you and the school regarding your child's progress. Last year 100% of students who attended our program made exceptional progress, and we had a 100% approval rating from the parents of our students.

Innovadia – We provide individualized, one-on-one tutoring in a safe online environment ot students in grades 3 – 12 in English Reading and Mathematics. The parents and school teachers are regularly updated of the student’s progress through monthly online meetings. We diagnose student needs by Diagnostic Online Reading and Math Assessments. A standard tutoring session will be for 60 minutes, 2 – 4 times per week, covering the pre-decided topics as outlined in the Learning Plan of the individual student. The total tutoring program lasts for 15 – 20 hours. All of our tutors hold a minimum of a college degree, 3 years of teaching experience and undergo 30 hours of training. Our lessons are delivered over the Internet for which we provide an internet enabled computer, headphone, mike and digital pen to all the students free of cost. Our program over the last two years has serviced around 200 students. 87% of the parents state that their students grade in the subject area increased at least one grade.

International After School Program is a quality after school enrichment and tutoring program. We offer students, parents and school districts a flexible onsite or home based computer based tutorial program. Our onsite or home-based program uses technology and distance learning enrichment and activities that focus primarily on Mathematics, ELA, Science and Social Studies for grades 2 – 8.

Students participating in our program receive Individual Learning Plans that are specifically developed to meet targeted academic goals. Progress reports are provided to parents to show academic strengths and weaknesses. Students are able to work on our online program for the duration of the academic school year using the computer provided in their materials package. All students receive a computer in their materials package and they are able to keep the computer after the program ends. One computer per household.

JT Educational Group, the only science provider in the state, is proud to introduce Milennium Scholars, an after school science program designed to excite students 3rd through 8th grade about the wonderful world of science. Through thrilling and entertaining hands on experiments, students will learn essential scientific concepts. In addition, students will be introduced to various science and technology careers by guest speakers and science experts. For an entire semester, one day a week, 2 hours a day, our teachers/tutors will help students, struggling to gifted, discover the scientific world around them. Tutors can be a certified teacher in any subject or have majored in science or taught science before. Our curriculum uses the experiments outlined in the South Carolina Standards and its indicators. Therefore, our program is effective through reinforcing and applying standards that our state asks its educators to use.

Kidz Youth Service program will provide an aligned curriculum with the South Carolina State Standard and NCLB. We will provide tutoring in reading, language Arts and mathematics. Each tutoring session will be 60-90 minutes, twice a week for 12 weeks(19 sessions),unless requested. We offer small group (5:1) and individual tutoring (1:1) in-home, on school sites and public agencies such as community centers, faith based organizations and public libraries. Our program has established an effective invention tutoring program which using core and invention materials to assist struggling learners in reading and mathematics. The organization direct-instruction curriculum has shown gain in reading and mathematics by 71% was reported by parents, class performance and the student's report cards. Our tutors are highly qualified teachers competent in their expert subject areas. We will provide the classroom teachers and parents with a written monthly progress report on the student's progress.

The Learning Key (TLK) offers reading or math to grades K5 - 8th. Our skills assessment and parent/teacher input are used to prepare customized lessons focused on the student individual needs. Tutoring is after school for 2 – 4 hours per week. Snacks are served. A low student to teacher ratio of 5:1 allows for individual attention. Most LK instructors are certified teachers.

Our goal is to ensure that students increase their proficiency in meeting state academic achievement standards. Our staff ratio of seven students to one staff member enables staff and students to build close, trusting relationships as they grow and work together. Palmetto Online provides 20 hours of tutoring services to students in grades K-12, in the subjects of English, reading, math, or science. We offer individual and small group tutoring. Each face-to face individual session is 1-2 hours long and based on the needs of the student. Students who participate in our online program must are required to complete a minimum of 30 minutes per session. Tutoring services can be provided in the home, school, library, a community center or online. Assements used can include but are not limited to Harvest Advantage Math and Reading Inventory, MAP scores, The Reading Style Inventory, Dibels, and Curriculum Associates Math and Reading test.

Project Reach will provide individualized tutoring that contributes to the improved academic achievement of students. Each program is custom-made to meet the needs of each student. We will provide tutoring in the following areas: Math, Science and English. We are composed of a group of teachers and administrators that have over 150 years of combined educational experiences. We explore different learning methods to help each child achieve at his/her level. Students will receive a minimum of 30 hours of services. We will provide services for 2 days a week for 2 hours. Student ratio will be 6:1 serving grades K-8th. We will administer a pre and post test which will show the gain of each child. The tutors will work with parents/teachers. 90% of our tutors will possess a bachelors degree or higher, with emphasis given to those instructors who have 80 credits in education with at least 18 hours in Reading, English or Mathematics including English, Mathematics, and Engineering majors.

Shout Church – The Shout SES program is an innovative approach to Language Arts instruction for students in grades K-8. Student sessions are two hours in length. The number of sessions will vary according to PPA. Since student learning is accomplished primarily through distance learning, most instruction is at a 0:1 ratio. However, qualified instructors (certified teachers) act as program administrators and are available to provide guidance and support to students as needed. A 2005 studey of K-3 students in the Aiken County Public School District showed that students who used the Achieve Now curriculum over a 10 week period achieved average increases of 36% in Phonemic Awareness, 17% in Vocabulary, and 41% in Comprehension on the Early Reading Program Assessments.

Teachers are State certified with experience in raising students’ achievement. Teacher assistants have received an associate degree or other relevant training. It I accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation, a division of AdvancED and has been a supplemental educational service provider in South Carolina since 2003. Surveys revealed a positive impact in improving students’ grades, and test scores.

The Center for Accelerated Learning - The primary goal of TCAL is to give students an opportunity to improve in reading, comprehension, and math skills. The program serves students in Reading or Math for grades K-8 with a 6:1 student to teacher ratio. Each program offers a total of 30 hours of instruction, which gives a student 20 sessions at 1.5 hours. The TCAL reading program is delivered by small group teacher-directed instruction with reading components such as main idea, comprehension, inference, cause and effect, and other components that meet state standard requirements. The math program is focused on skill development, problem solving, and mastery level.Parents and schools will receive a monthly progress report for each student as well as attend parent-teacher conferences. The instructors include certified teachers, retired teachers, and tutors trained for the program. Our research-based program has been used nationwide to improve student performance by 25% from pre test to post test with proven strategies.

The Neighborhood Learning Place offers eligible K-8th grade students support in English Language Arts,and Mathematics. Services are provided at a one to one ratio using an educational tool with access to the Web-based CompassLearning's Odyssey software in their home. After determining a student's instructional level, they are encouraged to work 1 hour each session,at least two hours per week. Students must complete 15 minutes for a session to be counted. Instructors either have an Associate's degree,48 college credits or successful completion of an assessment measuring knowlege of reading,writing, and math. One example of Odyssey's effectiveness was in Whitesburg Elementary(GA).The school was in needs improvement status before using Odyssey. After one year,the school began to meet AYP, which it has met or exceeded in every year since. In 2007 95% of the third graders and 90% of fifth graders met or exceeded expectations in reading, while about 97% of fifth-graders did the same in math.

Tutorial Services is an online (1:1) tutoring company that utilizes the program CompassLearning. We tutor grades K-12 in Math and English Language Arts. Our program operates 24/7 and the students are able to access their lessons at anytime and as much as they need to. We recommend that students access our program 2-4 hours per week in order to complete 24.56 hours of tutoring. Our tutors have all obtained their Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution and have previous experience in teaching and/or working with youth. Research shows that the most effective after-school instruction must be standards-based and connected to the school day, yet be fun and engaging. This area will allow our certified staff to link what was taught during the school day to the after-school program in the core subject areas of English/language arts and reading. Each session will last 1 hour per day for three days per week with a total of 30 hour. The ratio is 1 teachr per 8 students. Of the 20 students served, 95% of the students attended tutoring on the set day and time. 80% of the students raised their reading level by one grade.
