REGISTRATION, CHANGE OF DATA, CORRECTION OF ENROLMENT AND CANCELLATION

Foreigners owning goods, properties or rights subject to public registration, such as real estate property, vehicles, boats, airplanes, bank accounts, investments in financial or capital markets in Brazil must apply for registration in the “Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas” (Natural Persons Register) of the “Secretaria da Receita Federal” (Secretariat of the Federal Revenue), regardless of their place of residence. The issuance, change of data, correction of enrolment and cancellation of CPF can be requested through this Embassy. The process may take 90 days and once completed the CPF number is published in the web page of the Secretariat of the Federal Revenue.

If you have urgency in requesting a CPF number, you should send an authorization on the name of another person to act on your behalf requesting a CPF number in Brazil (POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR APPLICATION OF A CPF NUMBER). This process, in Brazil, is quite fast and may take days or one week.

You can also request a CPF number personally, if you are in Brazil. In that case, you should contact directly the Secretariat of the Federal Revenue so as to be informed of the needed documentation (usually the passport).
