The biblical examples of women looking out of windows are Michal (2 Sam 6:16; 1 Chr 15:29), Jezebel (2 Kgs 9:30), and Sisera's mother (Judg 5:28). Brenner points out that the literary figure of the woman at the window is substantiated by archaeological finds, in particular the Samaria ivories (On Gendering Texts, 120). ................
