JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE TO THE PRACTICE AND SURGERY MANAGER

JOB OBJECTIVES

To ensure a high level of service to patients

To undertake all reception duties effectively and promptly

To maintain absolute confidence with regard to patient information

To be a flexible and positive member of the reception team

JOB DESCRIPTION

Deal with patients who come to the surgery

• Facilitate the booking of appointments and audits of the same

• Receive requests for prescription, sick notes, insurance forms and other correspondence

• Explain surgery procedures, giving details about the practice to patients on registration, completing new patients paperwork.

• Making appointments for patients in person or over the telephone.

• Taking fees for private work and providing the appropriate receipt.

Deal with the telephone

• Answer the telephone and deal with enquiries from patients

• Retrieve appointment cancellation messages

• Receiving and recording requests for home visits and ensuring the duty doctor is notified

• Arranging and ordering transport/ambulance as required

• Receiving messages for doctors and all members of the Primary Health Care Team and ensure that they are passed to the relevant person

• Contacting patients at the doctors request

Other duties

• Sorting out and filing medical records, referrals and other correspondence when required

• Ensure the reception area is left tidy and ready for incoming colleagues

• Ensure details of any unresolved or urgent matters are passed to colleagues

• Opening the surgery premises and ensuring safe closure of the same

• Any other tasks as requested by the practice manager, surgery manager or partners which assist the smooth running of the surgery

• Be aware of all practice protocols for reception

• Ensure personal e-learning is up to date
