Food Technology and Hospitality Assistant

Food Technology Assistant Food Technology Coordinator Business Manager (for human resources/conditions) Nil Classroom and Learning Support - Level 3

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Food Technology Assistant contributes to the effective and efficient administration of the Food Technology Department to facilitate students' learning outcomes. The Assistant supports Food Technology teachers to provide a clean, efficient and dynamic learning environment.

MAIN DUTIES General Duties

Day-to day management and operation of the Food Technology kitchens Manage stock levels, including the ordering based on practical lesson

requirements and ensuring basic items and consumables are always in stock Manage and monitor ordering supplies of cleaning products appropriate to

the food service industry Manage and maintain the cleaning of all areas within the department Prepare and set up for all practical lessons, including providing for special

dietary requirements Liaise with department staff regarding recipes and practical lesson schedules Test and assess recipes for suitability Collate food allergies and modify recipes to meet dietary requirements Monitor departmental budgets, including processing invoices and the

reconciliation of credit cards Audit chemicals and maintain the MSDS data sheets and the department's

chemical register Ensure all equipment is in working order

Launder tea towels, aprons, oven mitts, tablecloths and dishcloths Liaise with department staff in regard to the garden program and what is

required with planting and equipment

Specific Events Assist with the planning, organising, ordering and preparation for: o Year 7 dinners in February o College Open Evening in March o Year 6 Try Dara Days in April o Hospitality parent dinner in May o Grandparents Day in June o Sacred Heart Day in June o Chevalier Day in October o Year 12 Restaurants throughout the year

Food Safety Duties Ensure condition and temperature of stock received and stored Ensure stock is rotated and date check is undertaken Provide a hygienic environment for the preparation, storage and safe handling of food Awareness of food allergies Maintain register of food allergies Maintain knife sharpness and safe storage.

WHS Duties Follow Workplace Health and Safety Practices to ensure that the kitchens and equipment are operated and maintained in a safe and hygienic manner Ensure that malfunctioning equipment is reported and fixed Promote a safe, secure environment for staff, students and visitors Participate in WHS meetings Ensure chemical register is kept up to date and store in share drive and a copy printed for the front office and department file Assist, when needed, to induct new staff.

Garden Duties Propagate or purchase plants Purchase equipment required for the garden program Schedule garden planting and maintenance lessons Ensure that the kitchen garden is kept watered

Regular check for any WHS issues Support teachers in the garden when required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

A willingness to support the MSC ethos and values. Appropriate qualifications and/or relevant experience. Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to form positive, friendly and

professional relationships with all stakeholders. Sound organisation skills/abilities Proven ICT knowledge and skills Ability to work effectively and manage busy workloads as part of a team and

independently with limited supervision A current ACT Working with Vulnerable People card.

Specific requirements for this role include: Food Safety Supervisor Certificate. Knowledge of purchasing and stock control. First Aid Certificate. Experience in Work Health and Safety controls. Experience in a commercial catering or hospitality food preparation environment. Extensive understanding of ingredients and appropriate uses. Ability to modify and convert recipes to meet the needs of the department.
