Course description

Ceramics one, Sculpture and Printmaking are hands on classes designed to provide students with basic instruction in the specific area of visual art they signed up for. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of processes and techniques. Emphasis will be placed upon learning basic building and techniques related to each discipline. Each week students will be presented with a specific assignment, within each assignment students will attempt to gain understanding and control of the technique assigned. The majority of assignments will be assigned weekly, however some assignments may run over the weekly allotted time frame. I will be hosting demonstrations in my art studio live-Log on be prepared! I’m not tech savvy but I will do my best to post videos and use online learning to help you.

NTI PROCEEDURES

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! Due to Corona virus we will be submitting artwork through the online platform Google classroom”.We will meet via Google at assigned times based on your class period. Assignments will be assigned a due date posted .In order to keep everything as simple as possible I want to see your projects when we meet on Google-simply hold them up to the camera and I will assign a grade for the assignment. Students will receive daily work points for posting and documenting their work through Google. Instructions for registering are posted on my teacher webpage. My email is chris.wilder@anderson.kyschools.us We are fortunate to have emergency funds for class materials so I will not being charging lab fees this semester. You will have to arrange pick up of your clay and tools at school. Each student will receive a 25 pound block of clay and a packet of tools. The tools will be returned at the end of the term. I will be placing a box in the office if you want your work to be fired, if not save until me have in class instruction.Printmaking, and sculpture supplies will also need to be picked up in person.

• On line engagement is required-you must log in, you must participate in class meetings and present your work to be graded. This is required!

• You will receive a daily grade of 20pts=100 a week.

• Assignments will be assigned a due date, any class work not submitted past the due date will be deducted 10 points daily.

• 100pts per assignment.

• If you have tech problems-let me know in advance of assignment due dates.

• Good communication is essential.

In person Expectations

Within the duration of this course each student will be expected to do his or her level best. Daily Participation is a requirement! If you choose to sit, sleep, or otherwise waste your time you will fail the course. Immaturity will not be permitted.Dedication, persistence and a daily work routine result in success. The following are keys to success in my class:

IF YOU ARE SICK OR SUSPECT YOU MAY BE-STAY HOME.

PLEASE WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES-THIS KEEPS ALL OF US SAFE. You will also receive 100pts a week for doing so.

PLEASE DO NOT CLUSTER AT THE DOOR-WE ARE TO REMAIN SIX FEET APART AT ALL TIMES.

PLEASE DO NOT APROACH MY DESK UNLESS YOU ARE SIX FEET AWAY.

ONE PERSON AT A TIME AT THE SINK.

CLEANING/DAILY HYGENE IS REQUIRED OF ALL STUDENTS.WASHING HANDS AND CLEANING WORK AREAS IS REQUIRED OF ALL STUDENTS-NON NEGOTATABLE.

1. All students will work daily (you will receive 20 pts per day-100 pts per week for participation) I f you refuse to work you will lose your points and you will fail the course.

2. If you have a question regarding your grade do not confront me in class. You will need to make an appointment with me during my planning period; I do not discuss grades publicly.

3. You are expected to properly store, and keep up with your artwork, I do not have the time.

4. No talking is permitted when I am introducing a lesson or demonstrating a technique.

5. Keep your cell phone put up, unless instructed to do otherwise.

6. You may listen to music with headphones only.

7. Upon entering the room you are to get out you assignment, gather materials and proceed to work-no exceptions.

8. No texting, no Netflix, no social media during class.

Parents/guardians-this class runs entirely on lab fees. The 20 $fee gives your child 25lbs of clay and access to class glazes. I humbly ask you to pay it if you are able. I will do my best to provide materials for free and reduced lunch (due to corona virus this fee may be waived)

Grading policy

40% Daily participation points

40% Assignments.

20% final exam. (Multiple choice 20 questions)

Maturity and cooperation go a long way with me- please be advised that there will be no horseplay! We will be using tools that are sharp and potentially dangerous. Above all you create the atmosphere within the class. I am here to guide you through the artistic process, not to babysit. Have fun.
