For People who don't want to read the whole story please read from 4th Para onwards.
Also How do I post Pictures?
Hi all I have been a silent visitor to this wonderful wealth of knowledge, for a number of years now. I have great regard for air rifles Especially Vintage Diana Air rifles, as it seems they have
wandered off in recent years. My first air rifle at the age of 6 was a Diana model 27 from the mid 50s. It was bought new by my grandfather as a present for my uncle He passed it on to my
brother in 1996 and he grew out of it pretty soon so I would take every opportunity to sneak it out. I have a huge sentimental connection with that gun to this day, despite the fact that, I now
have a couple dozen air rifles to choose from.
In 1998 I was 9 and still had trouble cocking the Diana (with a new spring) without the help of the domestic helper, or any one stronger. I used to prop it against the stairs of our house and cock
the gun like one of those old hand water pumps, Once while doing so I broke the stock in half. Scared that I will be scolded for breaking it, I hid it under a pile of blankets near our gun
storeroom. Couple of months down the road my father inquired about the Diana and i told him what had happened, much to my surprise he said don't worry we will get it re-stocked. Low and
behold the gun along with the original stock went to our own gunsmith, and a couple of weeks down the road came back with a new spring, end cap and and a rather well made but still ugly
stock and I continued my shenannigans yet again. I was now strong enough to cock it in the manner it was intended.
It was not until I discovered this page in the early-mid 2000s that the date of production was on the stock, and as the original broken stock had been thrown away a little part of the gun had
gone missing with that. Being a purist I needed a original stock for my precious little darling 27. after looking far and wide I could either not find a good one or the ones I saw I didn't want to pay
for.
Couple of days back I saw and advert for Diana 27 going for a price I was willing to pay and in a condition that looked viable as a parts gun or some thing I could restore. Bought the gun in a
blink emailed the seller and it was on its way to me the next morning. It just got here today and upon closer inspection it turns out to be in pretty good shape for a 1.40 Diana 27. The previous
owner had sanded the stock as he felt it was "bulky" wish he had not but oh well. The gun is in great condition over all as a ton of gummed up grease in the spring cocked it and then it would not
un-cock, so going to degrease it and lubricate the leather washer. missing the Endcap and some of the screws.
I am now having second thoughts on if I should restore it or use it as a parts gun for my Diana 27 which I have great sentimental value for.
Also needed to ask you guys, does any one of you parts I will need If I restore it, ie trigger guard mounting screws, stock screws for the forearm and an endcap. Also I was thinking of cleaning up
the prior sanding job done by the previous owner and hand rubbing boiled linseed oil. what do you guys say for a more original look.
Your Input will be most valuable!
