International artist-in-residency program located in the historic Old Market area. Artists from around the world live and work in studios on the second-floor. Three galleries feature contemporary art exhibitions.

This museum of history is housed in Union Station, a restored art deco railroad station. Attractions include Omaha history exhibits, trains, a soda fountain, and nationally touring exhibits.

The first Latino art and history museum and cultural center in the Midwest located in South Omaha. View world class permanent and traveling exhibitions featuring local, national, and international Latino art and culture. Film Streams is a nonprofit organization that operates the newly opened Ruth Sokolof Theater. The film theater which is housed in the Saddle Creek Records development is designed to serve both the passionate enthusiast and the casual filmgoer through the presentation and discussion of film as an art form. They focus on first-run films, repertory selections, arts in education and community development.

The best view in the zoo is at the new Orangutan Forest. Gorillas roam free in the new Hubbard Gorilla Valley. The zoo is home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest-the Lied Jungle, and the country’s largest cat complex. The zoo and IMAX theater are open year-round, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

This landmark structure across from Gene Leahy Mall in downtown Omaha is a world-class center for the performing arts. This state-of-the art facility was designed to provide the best of acoustical experiences and the finest amenities for patrons.

HOT SHOPS ARTS CENTER, 1301 Nicholas St.,

Bruning Sculpture, Loken Forge, and Crystal Forge make up the very heart of the Hot Shops Art Center, with the nature of their work giving it its "hot" name. They also house over 80 studio artists, plus an artist residency program, as well as four gallery spaces, in their building complex located in downtown Omaha, just north of the new Qwest Center Omaha. A wide range of workshops and art classes take place at the Hot Shops Art Center on a continuing basis, ranging from blacksmithing and glassblowing, to drawing and painting. Classes offered to groups and individuals.

This unique nonprofit community theater was founded by one of Omaha’s own—actor John Beasley. The theater encourages residents to experience and develop theatrical interests and talents through workshops and acting classes.

Nebraska’s only fine arts museum with an encyclopedic collection, Joslyn features a variety of works with an emphasis on 19th and 20th century European and American art and art of the American West. Special exhibits, musical programs, tours, lectures and classes are offered.

This free outdoor jazz concert series is one of Omaha’s most popular events

LAURITZEN GARDENS, 100 Bancroft St. 346-4002

Lauritzen Gardens features 100 acres of stunning display gardens and walking tours. Classes are offered in herbs, roses, butterflies, freezing and canning. Children enjoy classes on petals and paintbrushes, smelly plants, and lady bugs. Open daily 9 am to 5pm except on thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s day. Open until 8pm on Tuesdays for “Twilight Tuesdays,” May to September.

A non-profit 501 c3 dedicated to showcasing, collection, documentation, preservation, study and the dissemination of the history and culture of African Americans in the arts. As an educational institution, the Loves Jazz & Arts Center features state of the art digital media equipment enabling them to teach the latest media and engage in innovative new initiatives. Through exhibits, workshops, performances, educational programs, and special activities, the Loves Jazz & Arts Center explores the African American experience and celebrates accomplishments of the past and present to further advance the education of the future.

Omaha’s celebrated Orpheum Theater is home to the finest in local and touring theatrical performances. This 2,600-seat proscenium theater was built in 1927 as a vaudeville house. Many amenities were added during its $10 million renovation. It hosts musicals, dance, and popular entertainers.

The Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center is a beautifully restored vaudeville palace in downtown Omaha. It is home of the Omaha Theater Company for Young People and the Omaha Theater Ballet. The center offers medical services, community outreach activities. CDHC meets the needs of a large segment of Omaha’s under-served and under-privileged population. OOIC has been a vital part of the North Omaha community for over 36 years training the unemployed and underemployed for jobs. The Heartland Family Service Solomon Girls Center provides enriching after-school and summer opportunities to nearly 200 female members ages 5-18 years. This historic north Omaha institution provides activities and guidance to help each girl to find her own identity, and to develop a sense of responsibility to herself, her family and her community.

Santa Monica is a transitional living facility that provides therapy for women in recovery for substance abuse. It is the philosophy of the agency to treat the ”whole” person, including mental, physical, social, emotional and spiritual. This is a program designed for women, ages 19 to 65. This program is accessible to those individuals who cannot afford or access a long-term treatment program. The program will last a minimum of six months.

SIENNA/FRANCIS HOUSE, 1702 Nicholas St., 341-1821

This facility offers a free evening meal and Sunday brunch. Used clothing us provided when needed. Overnight lodging is also provided on a first come, first serve basis. Also, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program is offered for free. This program is a 120-day minimum stay that requires the participants to work at the facility. It is available to both men and women.

This agency offers assistance with addictions, mental health, legal, employment, bills, family problems, child care, food, housing, health care, recreation and victims of crime.

Nebraska’s Family Resource Centers (FRCs) are family-focused community or neighborhood collaborations that strengthen and preserve families and individual members within the community. Accordingly, FRCs coordinate and support human service programs that encourage self-sufficiency of the family unit. Family Resource Center programs enhance family function and parenting skills.. During July and August, volunteer mentors spend one hour reading to an elementary student.

YWCA OMAHA—Women Against Violence—Rape-Domestic Violence 24-hr Hotline, 345-7273

The YWCA Omaha Women Against Violence (WAV) Program provides services and resources regarding domestic violence and sexual assault. Including a 24-hour hotline, staffed by volunteers, that provides information, referrals and emotional support to victims, as well as information for the general population; age-specific education and prevention programs dealing with sexual abuse, rape, and domestic violence that are conducted primarily within area schools; and an advocacy program that offers legal and medical support, as well as immediate intervention for victims. The program offers both individual and group therapy for all age ranges
