It is one of the six regional accrediting agencies and serves as a common denominator of institutions within higher education. Accreditation represents a public statement of an institution's continuing capacity to provide programs and services. For A-B Tech students, accreditation is critical because it determines whether or not coursework is accepted by other accredited institutions to which they may want to transfer. Regional accreditation is also necessary for the College participation in many federal programs such as Title IV financial aid programs.Initially, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accreditation was granted to Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute on December 3, 1969.Programmatic Accreditation:The College will seek and maintain programmatic accreditations when required by federal or state licensing boards, state or federal programmatic requirements, or when it serves to enhance program recognition and/or student employment opportunities. The College ensures that it represents itself accurately to all U. S. Department of Education recognized agencies in which it holds accreditation and informs those agencies of any change in accreditation status in a timely manner.Former Policy: NoneAdded: December 1, 2010Updated: August 12, 2019 ................
