The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) utilizes a VIN Decoding Program provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to determine a vehicle’s fuel type and properly calculate the registration fees. In order to dispute your vehicle’s fuel type after paying your registration fee, please complete this form and mail to the address below with your supporting documentation. This form cannot be processed by the license agency and must be mailed directly to the BMV. FORMCHECKBOX ELECTRIC – A passenger car powered wholly or in part by a battery cell energy system that can be recharged via an external source of electricity.
